I won't. I will blame Obongo. ;)

They should be left alone. We pay into the Social Security system.

They should be cutting their spending and pay.

Also, all the "wars" should be stopped. Starting with Libya.

Then cut 100%: FEMA, DHS, NSA, and the ATF.

They won't be left alone Will because if you are honest you know the GOP have been trying to dismantle these programs since there inceptions(look up STARVE THE BEAST)Especially considering the elderly and poor Southern Whites who need these programs keep blindly voting Republican who want to end these programs.

Absolutely agree with you on the wars ,but the pennies spent in Libya is nothing compared to the Trillions Bush wasted in Iraq (and didn't pay for and the House GOP STILL don't want to pay for today as they refuse to increase the debt limit on spending they already approved) and TAX CUTS for Millionaires/Billionaires.

I blame the Dems.

Me too for not stiff arming the GOPer tax-mongering and doing the responsible thing in the last congress by letting expire Bush era tax cuts like the American people are calling for now. See, at least I have a (solid) reason...:thefinger

Bill passes in House. Woop!!!!!

DOA in Senate.

The most idiotic bit about the bill is that it DICTATES what the Senate should do when the issue comes up again in six months. :1orglaugh

Bill passes in House. Woop!!!!!

that bill is going to die fast in the Senate. John Boehner is not a very smart guy politically. His first act as speaker is a classic example, he passes a repeal of Obama care that everyone knew was not going to pass the Senate, yet he put the bill up for a vote anyway, waste of time. This is just another example of how politics trumps reason everytime, esp, in a split congress where its hard enough to get a comprimise as is. Next thing i know is going to happen, is Harry Ried will pass a bill in the Senate that will be DOA when it gets to the house, i hope that than is begining of a comprimise, but dont count on it.

Meanwhile, predictably Obama's poll numbers are at an all-time low... US Americans are falling for the bait hook, line and sinker....

Like I said, GOPers are pure and simple masters at winning politics..too bad most of their ideas are shit and they govern even worse...

It's good to be the king...
I'll leave it to Neil Kinnock attacking the far left at the 1985 Labour Party Conference, to sum up my feelings for this sorry affair which has the rest of the planet agog:

I am telling you, no matter how entertaining, how fulfilling to short-term egos -- you can't play politics with people's jobs and with people's services

The GOP wins politics because they have very simple messages for a very simple supporters of theirs. Simplistic GOP slogans for highly complex issues seem to win the day.

Those numbers are a bit skewed as some Progressive Obama supporters wish the President would use the 14th amendment and stop bending over backwards to compromise with the GOP when some obvioulsy want to sabotage the economy.

True but GOPers are right on progressive/Demo elitism in the sense that Demos just refuse to play the game on the terms it's played.

Example, there are let's just say 'non-conservatives' (i.e. too wishy-washy and terrorized by GOPers to even rightfully claim being a progressive) here on this very board who would decry some of the ways I deal with off-base conservatives here and their facade points. To them, playing the game on the terms GOPers lay out and using the same backwards logic to dispel their nonsense and illustrate their inconsistency is apparently beneath them. But then they can't understand why the positions they value and policies they support keep ending up beneath the bus.:o

But it's bigger than that. While GOPer media operatives (on AM radio and Faux) find every possible spin to perpetuate the myths in a debate...Demo operatives are practically mute or articulate the exact wrong approach to counter the malarkey.

Well, with a USSC led by (Scalia) Roberts, Alito and Scalia...who knows how that might turn out in the long run....

It is sad that more people aren't up in arms that GOPers are holding hostage the debt and economy to preserve tax cuts that have been around for a decade, that haven't worked as intended when they could help pay for a good chunk of money spent by the guy who enacted them. BUT WHO OR WHICH DEMO, DEMO OPERATIVE, ETC. DO YOU HEAR MAKING THAT POINT????

And again, for those who want to challenge my objectivity or bias or whatever....YES!!! I AM picking sides!!! Not because as you possibly believe I have some affinity for Obama. But because as I've said a thousand times before...GOPers are just worse. If that reality hasn't been gleaned thoroughly from watching this process unfold then I don't know what will shake you into reality.:D

I must admit it is absolute fucking brilliance that the GOP which is for even more reduced tax beaks for the wealthiest has somehow convinced so many working class people that they are working for them.

1)80-90% of the public wants their Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid ,but most(especially the South) still vote for the party that wishes to cut them(GOP).

2)Around 80% of the public believes taxes SHOULD be raised on the wealthy and tax loopholes closed. Well the GOP is closing down the government as we speak to defend those tax breaks and loopholes for the wealthiest and cutting safety net programs('Entitlements' as the GOP calls them)

The public understands what they want so why do they keep voting GOP? Do they not understand that DEms are for these programs and the GOP against?

I honestly believe most people do understand this .

However many working class people see the GOP ranting about stopping immigration(which the rich don't want stopped ironically because they are cheap labor), preseving English in 'our' schools, preventing certain groups from leeching off welfare,etc.............

In general many in working class community see Dems as the 'others' who are allowing immigrants/minorities to leech off this country and will never identify with them.

The stark differences in the demographics of the Dem and GOP conventions of 2008 are clues to how people view Parties.

What message could one possibly construct for these people who vote against their own economic self interest ? The message is there in all its glory ,but it seems some are not hearing it no matter what as they are fearful of those 'others'(Dems).

Liberal radio struggles to survive because their listeners wll not allow themselves to fall for the closeminded/hateful/angry/phobic nonsense of the Right.

I wish there would be more Democrats like Alan Grayson...

Grayson said last week he was gonna run again in 2012(?)

If not he should at least be on television/ radio more countering the nonsense from the Right.

Anthony Wiener could get in your face as well. Yes I know ,Weiner had huge balls too.

Simple answer as to why GOPers keep wining, the electorate will always gravitate to the appearance of leadership and a plan. GOPers for all their lack of governing know how to give the appearance of leadership and understand how to get from point A to point B in effecting policy. Most GOPers and Demos are just cut from different cloth in this way.

Given the choice...people will gravitate to leadership and reject paralysis.

Demos come off as paralyzed and inept because unlike GOPers...Demos are a podgy group that sometimes has competing interests. For example, you have on the one hand progressives who want gas to be $80 a gallon as a means of curbing consumption...but at the same time there are groups who see the market manipulation, corporate influence and political policy which contributes to the wealth of big oil...and policies which contribute to the $80 a gallon gas and pull the other way.

GOPers tend to be unified in beating Demos, beating what they call 'liberalism' and effecting their policies. Now they may differ on how to do it but at the end of the day they will always confer and come up with the best thing for GOPers no matter what the crises, policy, issue or ramifications.

Good post.

I find it tough to find any heros in Washington DC at the moment. Posturing and gaming from both sides.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
The tendancy of living forever in credit is the one to blame especially in the US. Buying things that cost a few bucks at credit is not wise and it makes you not a good money manager, the way you live at credit for small sums, the worse it will be with bigger sums.

I can agree with some of what you're saying there, although using credit to purchase appreciating assets or income producing investments can work out quite well. Yes, leverage can work both ways (magnifies losses as well as gains, if the asset doesn't perform as planned), but successful businesses all use credit from time to time. Whether one uses cash or credit, money management requires discipline... and it is the lack of discipline which gets people into trouble.

But let's not confuse paying current obligations with deciding on future spending. These are two very different issues - and that's what many are missing in this debate. What we're seeing here is one group saying that we will not/should not pay our current obligations (money that has already been spent) until we come to an agreement on future spending. That is the very definition of poor money management, especially when some of these very same people had a hand in creating those obligations.

As has been said before, if you're arguing with your wife about how much she spends on shoes, you don't refuse to pay the mortgage on the house as a way to put pressure on her.
