Mortality rates. Used to be everywhere. Have five kids, two or one grow up. Damn vaccinesIt bugs me that the countries with the highest child poverty rates are usually those with the most children per household.
Fair point (and I'm not arguing with you), but maybe the mortality rates are high in the first place because the parents don't the resources to feed & take care of them all?Mortality rates. Used to be everywhere. Have five kids, two or one grow up. Damn vaccines
You are correct. i was just pointing out the improvement in health care and other "Progressive" ideas that have made having children a more successful endeavor since ancient times. Increased life expectancy, better life conditions etc. You know, the stuff the Trumpistas want to reverse. Not to mention the wear and tear on women's bodies from the strain of being continually pregnant. My Mother ion Law had 8 kids and miscarried the 9th. Her body was exhausted by age 40.Fair point (and I'm not arguing with you), but maybe the mortality rates are high in the first place because the parents don't the resources to feed & take care of them all?
If you have just enough to satisfactorily take care of one child's nutritional, educational, medical and any other needs, you're not going to have sufficiently take care of 2 or more kids. Having one well taken care of child is likely to do better than 2 to 5 sick, malnourished kids. Not to mention all the time the mother is not at 100% from being pregnant, when she could be taking care of the first child.
Also that comic needs to get its fact straight, China ended the one child policy in 2016.
Do you know why your MIL decided to have 8 children? You are correct. i was just pointing out the improvement in health care and other "Progressive" ideas that have made having children a more successful endeavor since ancient times. It is a long story. My belief is that my Father in Law was a domineering jackass who expected his family to be obedient and quiet. Basically he thought he was a King. He was also a practicing Catholic and would not consider any form of birth control He ran his family as a personal fiefdom and denominated his wife who never realized what type of man he really was. So they had kid after kid for 8 or 9 years almost one per year( my wife, the oldest, and her next sister are 1 year and one day apart in birth). The Father in law also wanted sons and had 6 girls first. Not that he treated his sons any better when they came along. My Mother in Law and the reat were afraid of him as he would get very physical with them. And not in a positive ways. I will say that when my now wife and I became serious he left her completely alone after that. He didn't scare me because I did not put up with his shit. So that is basically why I believe they had so many. It was a different world as I am sure you have heard before and not always for the better.Do you know why your MIL decided to have 8 children?
I actually have heard situations like that where a lack of women's rights results in such large families. Those are also countries were the man is supposed to support the family since the woman isn't allowed to work - but since the "man" likely doesn't care about his children, it's not like he's going to incur increased financial burden from the children. It is a long story.
