Planet could be 'unrecognizable' by 2050, experts say

I got 7 words for this thread: Soylent Green is made out of people.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
I don't know, maybe someone here can explain to me why folks in Africa and Asia continue to reproduce like crazy. I could get it if they were rich and could actually sustain themselves yet these are poor people. If I can barely feed myself I know the last thing on my mind is having eight kids. It's not a hard concept to grasp your mind around.
The rich always reproduce less than the poor. It may have something to do with the massive mortality rates in poor countries; if most of your ids are gonna die, then you have more in the hope that a couple survive. In richer countries you have fewer kids with greater confidence in their survival.
The surface perhaps. But the planet will heal itself after the scourge of humanity.

And then the sun will obliterate it like it never existed at all.
Yep.
Stop predicting, start fixing.
Yep! Carbon capture! One/Two child laws!
Who's to say that rapidly spreading disease won't keep numbers down? Just asking.
In the old days when medicine was about curing disease, not treating the symptoms, maybe medicine would stop a global pandemic, but these days... (paging WTC7) :tinhat:
There will be a huge epidemic soon so that will cut the population and I think there will be WWIII starting as well so we have nothing to worry about! ;)
WW3 is a LOT to worry about.
We need to start World War III really soon.
You can't be serious. To hash up a famous quote; "Those who desire war have never experienced it"
... or encourage all those chinese companies to poison their crap even more, so we can get rid of all those children real fast
Nuke the chinese.
Population problem temporarily checked, pollution takes an instant hit, human rights abuses by the chinese dissapear, future potential for WW3 dissapears, food supplies lose all their strain (although it should be emphasized that we allready produce enough food to feed everyone, most of it just goes out of date on supermarket shelves)

Another doomsday prediction?

*yawn*

Fifty years ago scientists were saying that by now we'd all be living under domes because the atmosphere would be poisonous.

Nothing we haven't been hearing for the last century.

I would think rape plays a big part in it too

and don't forget when everyone thought the world was going to end 11 year ago

Any predictions for the future should be taken with a huge grain of salt. A computer simulation of the future or even opinions about the future doesn't mean that will actually happen. I mean, think about the 1950's or even the 1980's, what did people in those eras believe the future was going to be like? Did their predictions become a reality?

and that's why I'm not buying this whole idea that gas is going to be 5-6 bucks a gallon by 2012... It seems like every year the price goes uo and people begin to freak out, and then the price goes back down... will it be more expensive, probably... will it be 5 bucks, probably not
