Perceptual unity

Not a new stuff, but for those who did not see it before, there is an interesting metamorphosis. When you first time look at this pictures, they do not produce any special impression. What emotions do you feel when you look at them? What were you thinking of? try to remember it...

...and than, compare your emotions to emotions you will feel when you know the author of those flowers, dogs and landscapes!

such a strange contrast! so hard to imagine this person drawing all that lines and creating that type of stuff, is not it? this is something against habitual perception of things!

He wasn't a terrible artist. Shame he fucked everything else up though, eh?

If those didn't make the grade for art school, what the hell did they want?!? No wonder he was so angry at people.

I thought about it from kinda different angle: this example shows that it is very wrong to judge about person only by one display of his qualities/possibilities/talent or whatever.

There is always a probability that a good musician or artist is a very big asshole in person. Not as big as an this example (cuz in this example art was not that outstanding), of course, but still - the beauty and attraction of the art does not always correspond with the attraction of its author. And it comes out that an evil man can draw `sweet` shit. This is kinda strange, like incompatibility.

Maybe Michelangelo was tortuing animals for fun, who knows? I won't be surprised.

oddly enough I did think of the artist when I saw these pictures, even without knowing who it was.

They say most geniuses are mad. Who knows what else lurked within him and many others of his kind. Jekyll/ Hyde thing maybe? Look at John Wayne Gacy Jr. http://www.darkparks.com/images/gacy1.jpg

I don't know, but being artistic to me doesn't mean one has good in them. Creativity is neither good nor bad I feel. It is what it is, a gift.

Nice thread, very interesting and thought-provoking.

I know I've seen many of them. *shivers* He was talented though. :dunno: There are many small dark places in all of us I think. Most just never let them surface. Example: Fantasy overall. Many. if not all of us have thought things we would never do. Some I think are just are weak and let it surface and act upon the evil. IMO

It's a well known fact that Richard Wagner was a racist and a misogynist. The fact that he wrote such incredible works as The Ring cycle and Tristan und Isolde doesn't mean that he was a decent human being. Odd that the greatest composer since Beethoven was so starkly different in his personal life from the person that many compared him to.

Erm, excuse my ignorance in the realm of art, but I thought his art was pretty good. Of course, this is coming from a guy whose best drawings have been stick figures.
