So after having gone through two PC laptops that eventually went out on me over the years, last month I finally broke down and bought a MacBook Pro. I don't know why I didn't buy one from the beginning; they are more expensive but jesus, I love it. What are your preferences?

And I do realize that I should probably give it a little more time to truly judge the mac, but from the getgo I loved it so much more than any of the other PCs I had

Same here, except I haven't gotten the MacBook yet. I figure I'm breaking even though.

You seem to be about portable computers. Those are really just an add-on devices for me, for business use.

Classic tower-computers are the best, as they offer the opportunity to switch between several mainboards, grafic cards etc.

Even as other PC sales are falling off, it seems like Mac sales are steady to up. And I've read about more Macs showing up in the corporate environment. Macs still make up a fairly small percentage of computers, but the share seems to be rising.

Anyway, the first computer I bought was a Mac+ back in 85 or so. And it still works!!! I'm afraid that I can't say the same for most of the other computers I've had over the years - probably close to two dozen by now. So I'm with you: the next computer I buy (late next summer/early fall) will be a MacBook Pro as well. My girl has one and she loves it. Her sister, her brother-in-law and their son also have Macs. And with the newer Macs, if you want to run the Mac OS, you can. If you want to run Windows, you can. If you want to run Linux, you can. But along with liking the Mac OS, I'm going for the superior build quality of the Mac. AFAIK, Macs still tend to dominate the Consumer Reports rankings. If I want something that I have to work on, it'll be a car. I just want my computer to work!

The "dumb boxes" (quotes, spreadsheets, etc.) in my office will continue to be Windows machines. But once I get the MacBook Pro, it will become my primary computer.

AFK..being taken to the vet to get neutered.
PCs are deliberately designed to fail in some way within a year that makes them too expensive to fix, so off we go to buy another Ford Edsel with a keyboard.

Twinned with the utterly, criminally useless and flawed Microsoft platforms and progs, and ably assisted by the fuck ups at Norton and Symantec whose protection and first aid apps instantly screw up the OS worse than any virus,

PCs will one day, I am sure, be a historical embarrassment at best and, at worst revealed as the highwayman blocking our path to the real future and stealing our hopes and potential to explore the universe in crash free, security updateless peace.

Guess what 'puter I prefer?:D

PC all the way...build your own or get a quality one (i.e. NOT a Dell, HP, Compaq etc...) and use quality parts that get along together and you'll have an amazing computer for not that much that will last

PCs.Because you can customise them the way you like and you can fix a lot of problems and upgrade them yourself

I pretty much only use my computer for graphic design and internet surfing so i don´t really see any reason to use anything else than my desktop pc.

I think PCs might all be female.

All those error messages that are communicated in English, but you have no idea what is actually being said.
Rules of normal operation changing all the time, without notice, resulting in lock outs and more down time
Constant patching and maintenance needed of essential systems
At least two days a month when they hardly work at all
The occasional virus ......

It's a theory.

I love my ASUS because it handles all my business work just fine. I don't need to be up sold a mac when I don't need it.

MAC VS PC = Democrat VS Republican

Had a mac for 2 years , switched back to good ol dell. The macs too unuserfriendly.

The Mac vs PC argument will roll on and on!

I've worked in the print, graphics and newspaper industries and used both Mac's and PC's. The first mac I started using was an LC in 1991, which is coming up to 20 years ago. Through upgrades and different companies I've probably worked on about 30 macs and 50 PC's.

In that time I've known one mac have a hard drive fail, and never seen a mac engineer. We have networks where only a mac can access every PC and Mac system on that network. Macs just sit there, and do their job. Just like you want a car to get you from A to B without needing the breakdown company on 24 hour stand by.

PC's, I've seen the same engineer out to the same computer 3 times in the same week. I seen PC engineers sat for 12 hours scratching their heads. Windows systems that won't communicate with each other.

So, from experience, if I want a problem with the piece of kit that I'm using to produce my work, I'd use a PC! If I don't want to even think about the kit I'm using to produce my work, I use a Mac.

PCs are for tweekers! :p

I'm just kiddin PC guys & gals . . . I do, however, like the idea of never having to worry about break downs and the ensuing tantrums that follow.

Mac's work for me.

I use a PC laptop from work, but my personal is a MacBook Pro... I love it, and would never consider another Windows based machine. :2 cents:
