Parkour

The next stage of human evolution. Anyone else into this? I've been pretty much training at this for about a year now.

It's gaining notoriety for it's use in films nowadays. For example Sabastian Foucan's appearance in Casino Royale

This is Parkour expert David Belle from the French film "Banlieue 13". With the exception of the falls...all of the leaps and climbs by Belle are real.

Although I'm not into Capoeira this is a pretty cool skill too.

Parkour is a superb spectacle.

Do to it - and to avoid injury - I suspect that one must be very very fit.

I love watching parkour. District B13 is a great watch too...that scene never ceases to amaze me. Props on training for it too, that's awesome.

Stuffs neat

Is Parkour another name for free running?

I hope to be good enough to develop a training camp for US military and OGA Special Operators at some point.

I would think that you need to be very physically fit to do parkour - and be able to be light on your feet and have superb hand/eye co-ordination.
That's my impression at least.

Fabulous way to get fit.

One of the most physically challenging things I've done...(and that's probably saying something of Parkour). Aside from the impact on the joints in your legs, hips, hands and fingers...virtually every muscle in your body must be highly conditioned from your finger tips to your toes...then there's the stamina and endurance...you have to balance anaerobic conditioning with aerobic conditioning.

That's so cool.

I love watching that stuff.

Would I do it? No, I twist my ankles walking down stairs :D. Jumping off things ... I think I would probably die :1orglaugh

This is exactly why I'm against single payer health care! :D

I tried getting into this a few years back, but a fear of heights and an unimpressed and unamused girlfriend put the kybosh on it. Well, that's what I like to tell myself. I guess USPSA 3-gun is as "extreme" as I'll get.

The David Belle vids on YouTube are fun as hell to watch, but when I see it in movies (that last Punisher, for example) it just doesn't look right. Like when JCVD used to do splits in fights for no reasons.

I look forward to real parkour police evasions on the news and video compilation shows. It's bound to happen. I can't imagine any 40 year old flat foots in vests jumping roofs or shimmying up downspouts.

Parkour is insane, I enjoy it. Sadly MTV aired some kind of Parkour championship, I do want to see that French action film District B13 that has free running in it. Great topic HM, I was thinking about posting the same thread yesterday but you beat me to it

That is insane! Your right about MTV LukeEl. Nothing like them getting involved with their shit background music and presenters to kill of something good!

My ex showed me some videos of this stuff on YouTube about a year back. Very, very impressive. I liked the parkour race they did on Top Gear also, haha. I wish I was in shape enough to learn how to do that stuff... I imagine it would be amazingly fun.

I'm obsessed with this now. I'm going to get Banluie 13. Loved the start of Casino Royale. That was the best action scene in years.
