Depends on what you're looking for. I've only met a few people online (all women, no men) and the relationship didn't last over a month or two. Granted, I wasn't looking for a serious relationship, just sex. If you're just looking for sex, and nothing else, online dating sites can be useful. But you're better off not attempting to find a real relationship online. I have family members who've tried online dating sites in an attempt to be in a real relationship, and it has always, without fail, blown up in their faces.

One encounter was memorable for the wrong reasons. Agreed to meet in a Car Park round the corner from my house, she then proceeded to interrogate me for about an hour, all because of a text when I happened to mention that that I had gone for a night out with some friends, one of whom shock horror, was a woman. She accused me of not being single like I had claimed! Very off putting. Needless to say, didnt see her again. I hate over possesive psychos

As a victim of online dating there are a few things I need to mention:

Beware "meeting" anyone that lives farther away than a couple of hours' drive away. You're asking for trouble...esp if you can't travel that far (due to lack of money, etc...) because if you get emotionally attached it's going to hurt like hell believe me. I learned this from bitter experience. If I ever get involved with online dating again I'm going to make sure she lives within 100 miles of me.

Another issue, which could be considered bad from a certain point of view, is that you get to really know each other before you meet. That might sound great (and it can be, don't get me wrong) but it might cause trouble - you may find yourself getting too emotionally involved too fast and you may end up getting hurt: you don't like her that way after meeting her face to face, or vice versa.

It's weird because you talk so much online that when you have your first date in person it already feels like your 10th, 20th, etc...

It's not 100%, but just be really cautious and keep your heart in check.

I learned that the hard way.
