btw georges you are reading far into Hollywood's portrayals of certain cities. Compton has some bad areas, yes, but also some very nice areas with middle class and upper middle class people living there. Most of the people live in houses, not tenement buildings. Queens has HUGE middle and upper middle class population. The Bronx has some very nice areas as well.
I think you tried to make this point using black neighborhoods, but only Watts was accurate and that is becoming more and more Mexican.
To be honest with you, if I had to live in the US, I would choose to live either in Abylene or Forth Worth plus I am not a fan of California. My cousins and my uncles who went to business trips there , didn't like it as well. When I was I rode 12 with my uncle, cousins and some friends through route 66. It was the first time that I discovered L.A. but I hated it. In NY , I have some family living in the 5th Avenue not far from Times Square and however the Bronx might have some middle and upper class inhabitants, they are not the kind of places where I would live or go visit. I am not reading that far into hollywood's portrayals to tell me that some places or towns in the US are shit. Generally indicators like the criminality rate, unemployment rate and the income per inhabitant, give you a clear picture which town in the USA is shit or not.
