Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom

They have every right if they have a contract and they are a private school.

I went to Christian schools and followed their rules.

He can follow their rules or he can leave.

It's a choice. I don't know how many times I have to say that.
I guess a few more time for you to understand.

Why do you submit to your employer?
You Might lose your little job? :weeping: :yahoo:

Why do you submit to the government?
Are you afraid of them coming to your home?

That would be my guess. ;)

and yet neither of those regulate how you think but if one is religious thought regulation is par for the course

I guess you must have had a vastly different religious upbringing then me, because I never heard anyone portray the subject as being just a matter of personal opinion that may or may not be true and open to debate. It was pretty much exactly as you say; to tell that they have the "facts".

lol religion.

it blows my mind that people believe and follow religion, but can challenge the "facts" taught in schools. world war 1 and 2? thomas edison? geography? BEDMAS? those aren't facts. those are "facts". forget those "facts". let me tell you about this girl i know who was fucked by a ghost and gave birth to a magician.

LOL FAX! Jesus iz reel I saw him mowing my lawwn last week. Praise Jeezus.

Now consuela.. she's way better, she's like supermaid. That girl NEVER complains or slows down. Of course.. she doesnt know much english, but.. I digress.

Anyway, this topic is pretty much *gone*. You cant argue the whole science vs. religion thing successfully. This guy believes that, the other guy believes in mysticism.. nobody will win.

The only thing that ever annoys the piss outta me.. is that in a stalemate the jesusites always walk away thinking they won. Ugh, religious vanity.

Well, he went to the prom and is now suspended and barred from going to his graduation.

He knew the consequences and did it any way. He only has himself to blame.

His father said he will file charges. Even though he knew what the handbook said. A frivolous case.

Don't sign anything unless you read it first.
He knew the rules, there's no reason to whine now. :hatsoff:

This entire case os totally ridiculous.

Is this what the church wants to be associated with? The supression of enjoyment? Thats all this church run school seems to be doing.

Good for the kid :hatsoff:

It's not about suppressing enjoyment. If his parents had read the handbook they, which I believe they did they knew their rules and it's their fault.

Don't you read the rules in a contract before you sign it?

This is a school that:

... forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing

Seems quite clear to me that they are trying to suppress the enjoyment of those that go there.

But this wasnt even on school property, it was in an entirely different place. The school cant really expect to be allowed to control their pupils when they are off the premises. You are correct, the parents did send their child to this school and the school has rules that they needed to follow and the parents probably agreed with.

But to punish a student for doing something that he thought he might enjoy and probably did, because it broke their rules, but was not on their grounds is ridiculous. It is none of the schools business what he or any other student does when they are away from the school. It's actually quite shameful. Why should the rules of the school be pushed upon the students when they are not in attendance?

Where is this "free will" we hear so much about?

It was off school grounds, but the handbook said what they expect.

The parents knew what the handbook said. If they didn't like it, they shouldn't have signed the contract and they shouldn't have sent their child to that school. They don't have any reason to whine now.

You cannot assume to promote your rules upon your students when they are not under your supervision. I does not matter whether or not the parents read the handbook, a school, any school even if it is a religious one should not be able to make any student do what it says off site. The parents should have their say when the child is not at school and if they felt it was okay to go then their word should be final and a school should not be able to interject into that judgement and punish a student who did not break their rules because he was not in attendance.

These are the rules of the school are they not? Not rules for life in general, and as he was not there he did not break them.

Really? I thought I founs Jesus last week. I've been keeping him in my closet. He must have escaped somehow. I guess it was another of those "miracles."

First, it's a Christian school and his parents knew the rules. They shouldn't have sent their child to that school if they didn't want to follow them.

Second, tell that to public schools who want to drug test their students.
That's invasion of privacy and controlling them outside of school.

Christians schools are different than public schools and they should be.
I don't believe in sending child to any school. I believe in home schooling your children.

Because they are your children, not the states.
It's the parent's job to educate them.

Great post!

But one thing you forgot: a lot of schools, namely Christian schools get students to dress alike. It's bad enough they have to think alike, let alone dress alike. Bad theory.

To quote George Carlin:

"I first saw it on old newsreels from the 1930s, but it was hard to understand because the narration was in German."

Thanks. :hatsoff:

I have a problem with parents sending their children to schools instead of home schooling them.

So, if that were the case, the uniforms wouldn't be an issue.

And, neither would school taxes.
