Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom

FINDLAY, Ohio – A student at a fundamentalist Baptist school that forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing will be suspended if he takes his girlfriend to her public high school prom, his principal said.

Despite the warning, 17-year-old Tyler Frost, who has never been to a dance before, said he plans to attend Findlay High School's prom Saturday.

Gotta love the closed mentalities of Bible thumpers.

Story

Uh oh, rock music.

When he said he might go to a different prom where they have rock music and might dance the people at his school must have hit the "independent thought" alarm in a panic.

"The handbook for the 84-student Christian school says rock music "is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds."

Damn right squares!;):banger:

I hope that kid dances his ass off! Fuck what that school says. They have no right to suspend him for something that's not taking place at that school. Rock on dude and I hope he gets some from his girlfriend also, just to add another "fuck you" to that school.

I myself went to a "Christian" school and had I known then what I know now, I would've expelled myself rather than go through 12 years of hell.

He knew their policies before he started going to the school.

So, he should follow them. :hatsoff:

Ah yes, liberal thought is progressing while history fades. Welcome to the new camelot. The economy might not be so great, but our brains are working instead of our credit cards in the meantime. :)

how do you know? hes a freakin highschool kid, I highly doubt that he had any say in what school he was attending.

the school really doesn't have any right to tell him what he can do on his own time and off campus.

and it really doesn't matter. He'll go to the prom, and commit all the evil sins of dancing, holding hands and listening to rock music and at the end he might even tempt the devil by stealing a kiss from his girlfreind.

meanwhile the other public school kids will be high on ecstasy and cocaine and having a gang bang and maybe stealing a car and shooting a few people.

Score +1 for reality. Around here and downtown Indianapolis the kids have already tried so many drugs, had so much sex... the laws might as well be changed. If the teens are fucking, I might as well be joining in and smoking and fucking with them. Fuggin' hell.

It's no longer "If there is grass on the field, play ball"

It is "If there is grass on the field, the field will play with your balls"

He's a child, so what. :hatsoff: He can decide to do as he pleases after he graduates or find another school.

They have every right if they have a contract and they are a private school.

I went to Christian schools and followed their rules.

He can follow their rules or he can leave.

Oi vé.

One really good way of spicing up a relationship is to take your baby dancing. If schools could teach real dancing, like ballroom at least, kids would be more prepared to love their sweethearts in the future.

As for the seeds of rebellion. Rebel against whom? Republicans? Conservatives? The good upright establishment? The good ole 'Don't mess with Texas' crowd? Our venerated predecessors? I wonder if they have ever stopped to think about this for even a second.

Many people leave their beliefs all the time.

They choose to believe and they choose to not believe.

Public schools and colleges indoctrinate much more and much worse than any church.
Supposedly you don't have the choice to go to school, and you should.

Home schooling would be better.

I don´t know where you come from but in public schools in Sweden we don´t brainwash children into believing anything, the schools teach facts, as well as religious theories (from all kinds of religions). To say that children have a choise to believe is complete bullshit, if you´ve been told to believe in one thing from the day you were born and you don´t even get to hear about any alternative theories when you´re in school then the chance to get away from the thing your parents taught you is very, very small.

I loved this quote from the article:

"In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the school committee chose the other," [Principal] England said.

What a humble bunch, eh?

The whole thing is just like a straight rip-off from "Footloose" though - I kept waiting to read about Kevin Bacon breaking into the scene and busting heads or something...

Yes, they have chosen one way and apparently if this child chooses to go to the prom, he has chosen another way. :hatsoff:
