Welcome to the Official Kentucky Derby/Triple Crown Horseracing thread.
With the Kentucky Derby only a few days away, lets get down to business.
I believe Street Sense will win -- Period!
His explosive move is more dominating than the other closers. Calvin Borel is a competent rider and knows Churchill Downs very well having won riding titles in 1998 and 2006.
So we have a Hall of Fame trainer, an experienced jockey, and an extremely talented colt. Triple Crown here we come.
He has a few historical records to overcome - Breeders Cup Juvenile winner and only 2 prep races have never won the Derby. Lets not forget a couple of these historical record have been broken in the past decade.
2003 Funny Cide became the first gelding to win since 1929.
2006 Barbaro became the first ***** to win off a 5 week layoff.
I really think Street Sense can pull it off. Carl Nafzger is an astute trainer and planned out a map to win the Triple Crown. Street Sense adores the Churchill Downs surface -- with his dominating performance 10+ length win in the BC Juvenile, his lightly raced season, and his flawless workouts. This ***** is ready-set-go.
As for the Oaks -- I don't even have to handicap the race. Rags to Riches/Pletcher combo will waltz.
I'll be betting $10 on the Oaks/Derby double.
Wheel Rags to Riches with Street Sense, Hard Spun, Great Hunter, Any Given Saturday, and **** *****.
Lastly, what about Curlin? He's running for 2nd place. If he beats me, Oh well. I think the lack of experience will challenge him when he is surrounded by horses coupled with 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his two-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned ***** worn the blanket of red roses.
The draw is later today. Good Luck to all.
Long live the Sport of Kings!!!!
