How do you successfully send and receive mail with your stage name? Do you use UPS or USPS, and if you use USPS, how did you get them to let you receive mail to your stage name?
It took me a year to finally get my PO Box set up in NY. First we applied online with 3 names- my photographer's (who is the owner of the box), my real name, and my Harley Spencer name. When we got to the post office, they told us that Harley Spencer herself needs to come in and provide ID. We tried to explain that it's literally impossible to do that unless I legally change my name to Harley Spencer. They weren't having it. We went through all these back-and-forth trips to the post office trying to straighten things out, with them denying us each time. Finally one lady said we could do a C/O (Care Of) for Harley Spencer if it's affiliated with someone else on the box. So we set up a business on the box called 21/22 Group, which is my photographer's modeling agency, so from there on I was able to send and receive mail for months on end with Harley Spencer C/O 21/22 Group with no problems whatsoever.
Yesterday I went in to pick up 3 packages I ordered from Ebay and a cash payment from a customer on abibids, and low and behold, they denied me. Usually all I have to do is go in, hand them my pink slips and they give me whatever mail is in the box. That's it. But yesterday the lady asked for my ID, then said that my name on my ID doesn't match the name addressed on the packages. No ****! Oh my god. So I was arguing with them for at least 20 minutes about this whole spiel, how it hasn't been a problem for the last umpteen months, so why now all of a sudden? They kept saying **** like, "Sorry, it's just the rules." Really? It's just the rules? Sooo.... you've been breaking the rules all this time and all of a sudden you're goody two shoes today who wants to obey them? So it was this whole big deal, I don't feel like going into details, but it resulted in me being extremely pissed off, they wouldn't give me my items, so I had to email the customer who sent me money telling him that his money is being sent back to him and he's not able to get the item he won because of the post office, and now the post office is taking 21/22 Group off the box, so now I have absolutely no way to send or receive mail that's affiliated with my Harley Spencer business, therefor I can no longer sell items on abibids, so therefor I'm completely fucked for money until something can be figured out because selling stuff was my main form of income.
So yeah, what do you other girls do? How do you get the post office to accept your stage name? I'm tempted to march in there and show them my website, but I'm so fed up and missed off with the post office at this point that I don't want to go back in there at all.
Also, we already tried UPS, and while yes they did accept my stage name as a name, they're too inconvenient for me to use- they're too far away, more expensive, and when something needs delivered to my apartment, they won't send it here because our buzzer for our apartment is broken so they end up taking it back to the UPS store anyway. It needs to be the post office.
Thanks in advance to any advice you can offer!
