Bought this game on Sunday and so far I love it. I have played through the original about 5 to 6 times and I was a little iffy on whether or not I have played it enough when I bought this but after playing it (I just got to adult Link) for a while I can say this alone shows other developers how 3D can be done on the 3DS. Sure, it isn't necessary to play it in 3D and you still can't stray from the center of the screen to keep the effect but it uses it very well. The parts I love the most about the 3D are actually the little things, like when Navi hides inside Link as he's running and a trail of her "fairy dust" or whatever comes towards you or when you grab a chicken and run around and the feathers are coming right at the camera or when you're running towards a sunset and the glare seemingly pops out right at you. They took their time getting all this down.
The graphics themselves have had an update too but only if you pay close attention to detail as well. I'm glad they updated them but still kept it in the same "model" as the N64 version. It's basically a touch up but a damn good one.
The gameplay remains pretty untouched except for the inclusion of the touch screen which I love for this game. Changing weapons, tunics, items has never been so seamless for this game; YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO PAUSE to switch this shit out with this!!! That was always one of my biggest complaints with the other versions. You also can use the gyroscope in the 3DS to look around in first person mode (whether it be simply looking or aiming weapons) and I like it but once again this also tends to show how much you can't stray too far from the screen or you'll lose the 3D effect and in a battle, that's frustrating. But if you just move your head with the screen, sometimes I felt completely immersed in the land of Hyrule. I looked up, Link looked up; I looked to aim my slingshot at a Golden Skulltula in the upper right corner, Link aimed in the same direction. I see great potential for this in future games (Metroid anyone?)
Then there are the extras, I haven't beaten it yet but when one does do that it opens up the Master Quest version which is the same game but with the dungeons being re-arranged. It also opens a mode where you can fight any of the bosses again but this time it is timed competition.
I give the game a definite 9/10. It's one of the best games ever injected with just the right amount of botox all the while keeping the charm and fun still there!
Here's a commercial for it featuring Robin Williams and his daughter Zelda; yes, he named his daughter after the Princess (and she's hot as well)
