Obama's desperate attempt...

Obama's desperate last-ditch attempt for Socialized health care.

Making a last-ditch effort to save his health care overhaul, President Barack Obama on Monday put forward a nearly $1 trillion, 10-year compromise that would allow the government to deny or roll back egregious insurance premium increases that infuriate consumers.

The White House immediately demanded an up-or-down vote in Congress on the plan, or something close to it. But it's highly uncertain that such sweeping legislation can pass. Republicans are virtually unanimous in opposing it, and some Democrats who previously supported a health care remake are having second thoughts in an election year. After a year in pursuit, Obama may have to settle for a modest fallback version of what once was his top domestic priority.

We don't want it.

Ugh... I still don't understand why these guys didn't try some PROVEN reform measures that have been tested in different states before trying to sell America a TRILLION dollar plan that no one... and I mean no one... has even read.

It's the very definition of insanity.

ive given up on these assholes. Nothing is getting done. lets just get rid of all of them (reps and dems) and start over.

Yeah....how dare Obama actually attempt to back legislation the majority vote him in office to enact....even if the vocal minority has hijacked the debate.

I still can't imagine them enforcing the new law they want - get health care or pay a fine.
What about the homeless?

Leave it as is - I still don't hear of thousands and thousands of people dying because they were denied health care.

I don't know much about that particular part of the proposal but is the alternative opt to be covered in a system that is "free" of upfront costs..(new healthcare system) or be fined? If so, seems a bit illogical that one would opt to be fined when all they need do is sign up for the new healthcare (if that's the case).

How would you fine a homeless person? Certainly one would think the homeless would be eligible for coverage.

Is the purpose of this thread just to combat Hellraisers threads? or is it the other way around? These political threads are making me sleepy.

I'm guessing this plan, like his original one, exempts those below a certain income level from any possibility of being fined.

What's wrong with the old-fashioned mantra: if you can afford health care, you shall be healed. Clearly poor people are poor for a reason. If they can't afford it, then they weren't meant to be healed. Let's be honest, we don't really want them to be healed anyway. It's not like they've done anything important with their lives. This is socioeconomic Darwinism at it's very simplest. Amirite?

Obama is a desperate attempt. And thus far a failed attempt.

Actually, the poor have Medicaid, so they do have some coverage. The thing is that there's waiting times for any treatment or doctor's visits. Is that what you want for EVERYONE? You have $80 bucks, $20 dollars more than a new X-Box game, you can walk into a doctor's office and get a check up (I've done it). The problem is people who are not poor but who can't afford to pay the insurance premiums, particularly when it's about $300 a month for a family of 5 (I checked online), but then again there's CHIPS, so that's a bit of help for the kids.

The very poor or the very rich should have no problem getting covered. The very poor have Medicaid, the very rich don't even need insurance since they can pay out of their own pockets. The people in the middle are the ones that would need some help and instead of having to wait for an act of congress, it would be easier to unleash competition among the insurance companies and let a price war beging among them to see which one can offer the best deals.

The sad part is that a decade from now where the cost of health insurance starts to get out of hand even by today’s standards, and a lot more people don't have it or can't afford it we will be wondering why we didn't fix the system now when we had a chance to do it right. People don't care until it effects them, and it's probably going to in the near future.

I think you better go over what Medicaid is. You don't know what you're talking about. You can not get on Medicaid just because you are poor. That is not nearly enough of a criteria to get on it. If you don't have minor children, are not a minor yourself, are not over 65 years old, or are not disabled, you're screwed. I'm well below what would be considered poverty level and I can't get it as many other people out there can't get Medicaid. It definitely is not some replacement for medical insurance for the poor, not even close.
