About effin' time...now, we don't have any money for much research, but the thought is nice...:D
I never had much use for the Dark Ages reasoning GWB used when it came to Stem Cell Research...too many people needed the hope it offered, including everyone living...at least their may be some future breakthroughs now.
Yay!

Take a Hit, Spunker!
I'm for it!! About time that get's more open space to see what it can do.

That is good news, the complete disregard for scientific research promoted over the past 8 years was based on superstition and not fact. So lets hope the sanctions are lifeted fast.

I think those against this should realise something, the embryos being used have no brain, no form of conciousness. It has no internal organs, no arms, legs or head. We apoptose millions of cells everyday for one reason or another, and the extraction of these cells is no different. Although adult stem cells are mainly used for research now they are quite limited so embryonic stem cells will have to be used, there should be no quarrels with that because these cells are far more adaptive than those of adult stem cells and are cells nothing more.

There was no ban on it, just no taxpayer dollars for it.
For it or against it, you get to pay for it!

Agreed, phillupbertrand. The boundaries are being removed... RIGHT when we have dick to spend on it. Hmph.

One of the building blocks of our existence and the last guy had to stay away from it to satisfy a religious need to.. what, exactly? Ignore that which reminds us how human we are? Fix many possible problems, enhance and.. eh...what's the use? The last 8 years are gone and we have a different set of problems staring us down.

This isn't new....

They've been doing research the past 4 years that I know about, or why else would they be starting FDA trials for injection for post myocardial infarction? Yeah that's right, heart stem cell research.

Same company is working on other FDA projects too, I'll go find the links. (Company name is Genron, just found out)

The existing stock was allowed to be used, and other nonembryonic stem cells were also used...like saying that as long as you only use holy water, feel free to drink and water your crops as much as you like.
The whole stem cell arena is new, and promising...the gov't had the largest fund for scientific research, and now that it's freely spending nonexisting cash maybe the really important but not needed (until you screw up your spinal column, for instance, or have muscular dystrophy) by everyone will get some new life.
At least if a genetic research company is doing Gov't work they can also do the hard stuff.
Recently a beneficiary of stem cell treatment developed tumors from a factor of the treatment...there isn't yet a way to control the reaction of the body to some new genetic material. Research is very new, there are worlds to explore and let us hope the direction we go takes us to what many feel is a really promising dawn of health care and repair.
