Obama, Hitler Billboard "Not Disrespectful" Tea Party Leader Says

My question is, if you're comparing Obama to Hitler SHOULDN'T it be considered disrespectful (assuming that you think Hitler was at least some kind of evil)???

Excerpt:
The message of a controversial billboard in Mason City comparing President Obama with Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin probably got lost in its visuals, a co-founder of the Tea Party group that paid for the sign said today.

But he says the underlying message remains: That the country is headed in the wrong direction.

He insists the billboard that links Obama with Nazi or communist tyrants – including one that led to the murder of 6 million Jewish people – is not disrespectful to President Obama.

“It is not disrespectful to Mr. Obama. It’s a statement on his policy,” said Bob Johnson, co-founder of the North Iowa Tea Party. “It’s a statement on his policies.”

Johnson said he was not part of a billboard committee that approved the advertisement. He said he doesn’t know how much the billboard cost but said it would remain up for a month.

The billboard includes a pictures with the words “Radical leaders prey on the fearful & Naïve.”

I'm sorry, but didn't Bush get the same treatment?

Seriously, I think there needs to be some amazing change in our country. Our parties are just sucking each other's dicks and getting nothing accomplished! I don't think the U.S. will last another 100 years. At this rate, we're going down

Wow, how original and SHOCKING. Is this seriously the best these people can come up with? I mean, sure, by all means criticise the guy if you don't agree with what he's doing, but you kind of make yourself out to be a completely uninspired and slightly stupid campaign with such facile imagery that wouldn't tax an 8 year old to come up with something better.

i didn't know lennin and hitler were the only naughty boys out there...also wouldn't stalin be worse than lennin or is it more of a bad regimes at the beginning type of message? how bout a comparison to hussein or pol pot...or lets get contemporary up in this bitch and do a chavez comparison :D

This type of thing falls under that little something called the 1st Amendment regardless of people feeling if it's disrespectful or not. And besides, every president has had anti-billboards and political cartoons made about them and their policies. What makes Obama immune to this?

This is my favorite bush billboard: http://www.nogw.com/images/bushhell.jpg

I like that one.

As for Obama, comparisons do not necessarily mean that they are the same. This is comparing 3 people based on 1 word. Change. What political party would EVER be elected without saying that they are going to change something, unless they are the incumbents.
"Vote for us because we are exactly the same as those already running the country" just wouldn't work.

While I think comparing anyone to Hitler is a bit sophmoric, I would say that for those who used similar attacks on Bush, the Bush/Cheney people are responsible for thousands of lost lives, Americans and others, and they did indeed use reprehensible tactics, including torture, that would invite comparisons to other non-democratic regime leaders.

What I find amusing about the hoopla about Obama is that he has basically been a somewhat right-of-center President thus far -- certainly not a liberal by my definition -- and there has been nothing even close to socialism in his policies. The extreme right-wing have moved the center over the past decade, so a reactionary like John McCain is actually considered a "moderate." Very funny indeed. As to Hitler, Jan Brewer in Arizona would be a closer candidate than many, but again comparing anyone to Hitler -- except Hitler -- is somewhat moronic. And of course if you look up Tea Party in a dictionary of reality you get: moronic.

I wouldn't worry about it all that much -- it says far more about the petty nature of the tea party than it does about anyone else. Recent actions taken within and without the tea party leadership have convinced me that tea party members are no more interested in long term fiscal responsibility and restraint than either political party and, despite the claims to having a libertarian/independent streak, are much more socially conservative.

What so called mainstream group or organization did that? All kinds of people said things of Bush and caricatured him derisively....the same as has been done with Obama.

The difference in Bush's case is no so called mainstream organization did (or at least I haven't seen it).
