Obama Administration Set to Ban Asthma Inhalers

So the FDA starts making plans to phaseout these inhalers in 2006 (under Bush) and finalizes these plans in 2008 (still under Bush). This was part of an ongoing effort to reduce CFC's in accordance with an international treaty signed in 1987 (under Reagan). Then the Weekly Standard conveniently ommits these facts and blames the entire thing on Barack Obama. Makes perfect sense.

Ooops. Guess you didn't read post #6.

Impressive rejoinders by Trident and The Worm too. Move over Bill Buckley, this crew is the new voice of conservatism

:uohs: Um, I was just venting. Yea, that's it! Venting! :D

You couldn't make an article more inflammatory and just plain incorrect if you tried!

So the one over the counter inhaler left with CFC's that does not really work very well anyway for anyone with asthma is about to be banned because of a treaty signed way back in 1987 by the Regan administration and finally phasing all products with CFC's out by 2008, is about to be banned!

There has only been a mere 24 years to develop another aerosol so this is terribly unfair to ban it so suddenly.

He's going to give them breathalyzers instead!

That's what he said alright ...

:1orglaugh

Oh god save the queen!!! First, there was that government group that recommended women don't get/need mammograms before age 50. :bang: Then the government earmarked $250K to a state to study the effect of cow shit and farts (methane) on the atmosphere. Then there was the half-million spent to study shrimp running on treadmills (yes, really). Now, the inhaler gas is hurting the planet. Really!?

OK, here's a modest proposal that the progressive can embrace: How about we just kill off everyone with asthma. Problem solved. That way we keep the air clean and reduce the population, which will mean there are fewer mouths to feed and fewer people to burden the health care system. A win-win-win-win situation. Yayyyy!

Then around the turn of the century, the do-gooder enviro-weenies maintained that Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) was the best gasoline additive (as an oxygenate) .... we know how that one worked out.

I totally agree that the ban on CFC inhalers is mainly about making a lot of money for the pharmaceutical companies. However, having recently switched from the CFC to HFA inhalers for some chronic bronchitis, I must say that the HFA inhalers taste a million times better. CFC inhalers always left an awful bitter aftertaste in my mouth that kinda burned the back of my throat. The HFA inhalers are virtually tasteless with just a faint vanilla flavor. Kinda makes the extra cost worth it.

Not surprisingly, "The Weekly Standard" (i.e. conservative mouthpiece) failed to report the following:

"The FDA finalized plans to phase out the products in 2008, and the only one now sold in the U.S. is Armstrong Pharmaceutical's Primatene mist. Other inhaler makers have switched to an environmentally friendly propellant called hydrofluoroalkane." http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-20110642-10391704.htm

Hmm, let's see, who was our president in 2008? :uohs: :drool2: :dunno:

hint: It wasn't Obama.

Yes it is. Very.

Come on, it's from The Weekly Standard! God knows they're objective!

I loved how "Mr. Hemmingway" ("cute" pen name btw. Ha ha ha!) finished his article:

Ummmmmmmm yeah, that pretty much says it all regarding the objectivity of the article!

I wonder why the worm chose to omit that part when it quoted a portion of the article? :dunno:

Kudos to you for being able to do your own research, demonstrating the ability to use critical thought, and for actually considering the source! You are a rare breed my friend! :glugglug:

What is remarkable about this presentation of facts is not only the willingness of those above to actually do research about the subject, the but complete willful ignorance - as well as the willful ignoring - of said facts by many of our right leaning posters. No wonder they are a disaster when it comes to all things science. And economic. And political. You definitely want them to stay away from education. Way away from anything entertainment. As well as artistic. And literary. Did I say economics and science already? I know comedy falls in the "entertainment" category...but, wow, conservatives suck when trying to be funny. They ain't so hot in the news/editorial fields, either.
You know, I could keep listing things many of our far right-leaning posters are good at, so I will simply list the things they are good at:
Their stupidity amuses me.
That is all.
