No offence to Islams, but it MIGHT be islams according some news channels. They refferd to the Muhammed drawings and the bombing in Denmark. But that is NOT confirmed. Personally, I have no strong oppinion on who could do this.

Update: 5 persons may be shot and killed at Utøya.

Four possiblities:

* The Taliban as well as Al-Qeada had threatened Norway over their involvement in Afghanistan via NATO (Norway had very recently increased military involvement)

* Sri Lankan groups bore a grudge against Norway for their involvement in peace talks

* Col. Gaddafi had threatened to strike European nations for their involvement in the Libya conflict and Norway is playing a part in this

* The recent Norwegian decision to deport Mullah Krekar, the founder of Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al Islam who had threatened to kill Norwegian politicians if deported


A group called the Helpers of the global jihad have claimed responsibility although it could be BS

tartanterrier and I just illustated a way to solve something. And that way is better than terror.

Update:
- 5 killed in the shooting at Utøya
- The shooter is arrested and have a scandinavian appearance
- At least 7 is killed in the bombing in Oslo. The police dont want to say anything more for now if there are more people killed
- The number of injured persons is rising - as normal in such situation

The ''European Commission against Racism and Intolerance'' (ECRI) , the racism watchdog of the Council of Europe, published a report warning that Islamophobia was on the rise in Norway.

... I guess that the good people of Norway came up short as they didn't accommodate their guests as gracefully as they should have.

I think its a bad circle that combind a bad host (I'm ashamed ) and immigrants that take more liberties than the law allowes.

Apparently the Utoya shooter who has been arrested was a white 6ft blonde who spoke fluent Norwegian so there is always the possibility of Nazi/right wing groups although he could easily have been a muslim convert, guess we'll find out soon enough. It is thought he was trying to plant explosives and was rumbled so began shooting.

Although I have no problem with uly on a personal level, he seems to lack a sense of self preservation at times, it's kind of worrying to think that the indigenous are always to blame for everything that goes awry in society. Granted, nobody, or no nation is perfect... but you don't have to be perfect in order to still be good.

It's very odd of you to say that as at this moment in time as the size of the attacks is still unknown or even the motives the ethnic background of the assailants could well determine who carried out these attacks as well as their possible motives, considering the scale of the attacks there are possibly many more attackers at large and you may well only have their ethnicity as the only means to indentify them. An asian/middle eastern assailant would imply an al-qaeda type attack whereas a white skinhead covered in swastikas would suggest far right involvement so ethnicity could prove crucial at this stage where little information is currently available.

Out of respect for the deceased and injured, I should have restrained myself from posting anything other than concern for the victims.

Police have said that the shooter who was arrested was also seen in Oslo earlier which is why they are linking the incidents

The shooter took the ferry to the Utoya disguised as a Policeman and told the ferry operator he was going to island to check for bombs following the attack in Oslo, which in all likelyhood was carried out by him
