Let's try this again without Umlaute:

Do you have any names for other countries or the people of other countries you call them other than American, Canadian, etc?

I don't mind if they're a little racist as long as they're funny and not blatantly aggressive or disrespectful.

Okay here a few that come to my mind right now.

Americans - Amis
French people - Froschfresser (frog munchers/devourers)
English/British - Tommys
Russians - Ivan
Italians - Spaghettifresser (spaghetti munchers/devourers)
Dutch people - Kaesekoeppe (cheese heads)
Norhern Germans - Fischkoeppe (fish heads)

Okay the last three could be taken as racist by some people, but I don't care. I've heard the last one in a movie, too so I can say it! :D

Brummie=Birmingham (ENG)

Is that an example?
Yeah! :)

Eeek, someone call in the krauts before this thread turns political!

See what I did there? Eh? :D

Admittedly where I hail from we usually call the germans "those fat bastards hogging the best spots on our beach", or "the bloody idiots that keeps getting lost in the forest".

'Septic-Tank Yank/Seppo' is one of my faves...heard it from my Kiwi friends because we Americons are always spewing shit.

Patrick_S

persona non grata
Norwegians = Norrbaggar (i believe the word "baggar" in this case is some sort of reference to a sheeps genitalia)

Turkish/Arabic - Kanaken (no translation)
Polish people - Polaken
Jewish people - Matzefresser (matza munchers)

Dude, I don't mind funny nicknames, but the last three are harsh racials slurs. I thought you were German. That means you should know the meaning of those words and know better not to use them. Especially Matzefresser and Kanaken are highly offensive. And just because you heard them in a movie doesn't make it ok to use them. I heard the word cunt in several movies, but I still wouldn't call anyone I respect by that word.

"Viezkoepp" for people from the river Moselle or the Pfalz (Palatinate) is a funny, but harmless nickname. ("Viez" is a kind of apple wine and "koepp" is just slang for head).
Aren't Australians called "Aussis" and people from New Zealand "Kiwis" in the US?

But there are several nicknames that come to mind, if you don't limit this to people. Rome for example has a great nickname in German: "die ewige Stadt". Hard to translate the exact meaning. Something like "the eternal/everlasting/perpetual city". Or "the windy city" for Chicago is a great nickname, too.

Okay maybe you're right about Matzefresser. I said that's very offensive. But since I saw it in a funny movie, too I posted it. I'm not using this term and not saying this here to Jewish people.

Kanake on the other hand is a very old German word! It wasn't offensive at all. Just like Neger. It's an old German term to name these people. Maybe it's not 100% pc anymore, but it's not racial slur if said in the right context.

I know that Kanake wasn't offensive when it was first used in the 19th century. But it was derived from it's original meaning and became a rather aggressive racial slur during the 70's and 80's, first against southern looking people and then against turkish/persian looking people. The only right context to use this word is if you're talking about German maritime history of the 19th century. Otherwise the dictionary says: "xenophobic, derogative term for foreigners". So, if you're arguing with etymology, you should know that, too. But I don't want to get into a Clerks 2 porch monkey discussion. Just use the word the next time you go for a bite in the Doener restaurant near you. Or use the word Kuemmeltuerke. Could work, too. But it'll definitely be the last time you'll be served any food there.
