god almighty. if we could play consistent hockey we'd be a very good team. we dominate the Rangers last night and again, we're just not in this one.

Columbus blows a two goal lead and loses to Calgary. God-motherfucking-dammit.

But, on the plus side, Vancouver, Buffalo, and Atlanta won, so I guess I can't complain.

Oh wait. I can. Philly lost. Fuck. My favourite teams (Except VAN) lose and my like teams win. This sucks.

I just want to say that being an Oilers fan is so god damn frustrating. We learn that Hemsky, our best scorer, is out for the season, then we have a one-goal lead with 1:40 left in regulation and the Sharks take a penalty, game over, right? WRONG, we hand Marleau a shorty to send it to OT and then we lose in the shootout. Then there's last night. Down 4-0 halfway through the first period. Don't judge me, because I'm a diehard Oilers fan, but I actually stopped watching at that point. If you were an Oilers fan, you'd understand why. But hey, we had 5 cups in 7 seasons from '84-'90. I can still hold onto that, and it looks like I'm going to have to for at least one more season.

I honestly thought that Pat Quinn would be able to turn the Oilers into a contender again. At least there are those rumours Jagr is interested in signing with you if he returns to the NHL.

Pat Quinn is a no talent, screaming, gum-chewing hack.

Yes, I'm a Toronto fan. Yes, I watched him take that team (with good talent) absofuckinglutely nowhere.

Toronto hasn't been going anywhere in years. Pat Quinn probably led the best Maple Leaf team in decades, though its not hard when you have talent like Sundin and Cujo to make it to the playoffs. Can't do that now with the shitty Monster as your goalie.

Did anyone watch the Florida-Atlanta game? (Of course no one didn't). Ballard fucking smacked Vokoun in the head with his stick. I don't know if it was on purpose or not, but if they don't give him a suspension for that its bullshit.

of course it wasn't on purpose. it was an accident. why would he hit his own goalie? people have swung sticks at the net for years to show frustration and Ballard accidentally hit his own goalie. he doesn't need to be suspended.

I think he does. That was one of the most unsportsmanlike things I have seen all year.

^^yeah. everyone needs to have better stick and temper control. I know I'm not popular for saying it, but fighting isn't part of the game. Neither is swinging your stick around.

Vokoun OK after scary moment
Tuesday, 12.01.2009 / 1:00 PM / News
By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Staff Writer
The video is just about everywhere now, but the only thing that matters is Florida Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun is OK after getting whacked in the head by teammate Keith Ballard's stick in the first period of Monday's 4-3 loss to Atlanta.

Vokoun went to an Atlanta hospital and had his lacerated left ear stitched before rejoining the team for the flight back home to Fort Lauderdale. Panthers GM Randy Sexton said on a media conference call Tuesday that Vokoun did not suffer a concussion or any inner-ear damage, as was initially feared.

"He's in great spirits other than a sore ear," Sexton said.

Sexton did say the Panthers will be making some roster moves later Tuesday. They may have to call up a goalie to back up Scott Clemmensen for Wednesday's game against Colorado because Vokoun's injury is making it difficult for him to comfortably wear his goalie mask.

"As soon as we can rig something up that he can get his helmet around that ear so he can play, he'll be ready," Panthers coach Peter DeBoer said on Tuesday's conference call. "It's not going to be long term."

Ballard swung his stick in frustration after Ilya Kovalchuk scored 8:54 into the first period to give the Thrashers a 2-1 lead. Using a baseball-type swing, he was trying to break his stick over the goal in frustration but instead caught Vokoun in the side of the head.

Neither the Panthers nor the NHL will discipline Ballard for his actions.

"It's a non-factor," DeBoer said. "This guy was visibly shaken and upset by the incident in the game. When we found out that Tomas was going to be fine I think he gutted it out and played the rest of the night for us. Tomas got on the plane and they had a chance to chat and sit together and there were no hard feelings.

"It's unfortunate. We don't condone it. I think organization's biggest issue now is getting the message out to the kids watching the game that it was a heat-of-the-moment play and it's not how you want to handle your frustrations. I'm sure Keith won't do it again and we're moving forward."

Ballard's night got worse as Maxim Afinogenov's game-winning goal deflected off his stick and into the net with only 5.5 seconds left in the contest.

"Obviously Keith has had some tough games the last few and the team has been losing and you see that frustration boil over in all different ways, whether it's guys taking penalties, whether it's yelling on the bench, yelling in the dressing room or whether it's slamming his stick after a goal," DeBoer said. "This one had some consequences."

DeBoer said no one on the Panthers' bench immediately realized what happened after Kovalchuk scored.

"Our trainers had to be called a couple of times because I don't think anybody on the bench realized what happened," DeBoer said. "I don't even think Keith realized he hit him. If you watch the video, he proceeded to hit his stick one more time after he hit Tomas and that tells me he didn't know."

Yeah, but the thing that scares me a little is that the guy showed no remorse whatsoever. He actually hit the post a second time and just skated right over the guy back to the bench!
I would have been on the ground trying to help the guy and showing some sort of remorse!?
The guy should sit 90 days at least, if this were the NBA, David Stern would toss the guy immediately!

I would have given him at least a two game suspension. That's pathetic.

he showed remorse. once it set in that Vokoun was hurt, Ballard was clearly showing remorse on the bench. he stayed out of the medical staff's way.

there was no need to suspend him. it was an accident, players swing sticks all the time and Vokoun isn't seriously hurt

Why didnt it "set in" the first oh.....5 FUCKIN' SECONDS immediately after he assaulted his own teammate with a deadly weapon??
Get him the fuck out for 90 days MINIMUM!!!:wave2:

i dunno. maybe because the goalie wears a mask? and it wasn't an assault. it was an ACCIDENT.

90 days:1orglaugh. longest suspension the league has ever handed out was only something like 25 games. this nowhere near warrants a suspension of any length.

No offence, but you sound like an idiot saying he should be suspended 90 days MINIMUM. The longest suspension in NHL history is 30 games. Bertuzzi was only suspended 20 for breaking vertebrae in Steve Moore's neck and ending his career. McSorley was only suspended 23 games (or the rest of the season) for viciously and INTENTIONALLY swinging his stick at Brashear's head. Now you know how suspensions go in the NHL, you clearly did not beforehand. If Bolland were to be suspended, which he absolutely should not be, it would have to be a MAXIMUM of 2 games. As it is, it was a complete accident, he hit his TEAMMATE, and he did show remorse. If you weren't watching and you didn't see it, then don't say he didn't because you don't know. Like Bettman said, having to be shown on Sportscentre and Sportsnet and every other sports show hitting his teammate in the head with his stick like that for weeks to come is punishment enough. A smart move by Bettman, this might just be a first.
