First. Penguins suck.

Second. I told you when the Coyotes first declared bankruptcy that faggot would bid on them. Also probably said it would fail. And it did. Bitchin.

Thirdly, I find it very dissapointing the Flames passed on Fleury. I hate the Flames, but I would watch just for Fleury. I also think its a shame that he didn't sign with another team, because I think he would have been a good fit with the Panthers.

I might be a little late with my predictions here, but cut me some slack.

East

1. Boston Bruins (P)
2. Philadelphia Flyers
3. Carolina Hurricanes
4. Pittsburgh Penguins
5. Washington Capitals
6. New Jersey Devils
7. New York Rangers
8. Buffalo Sabres
-
9. Florida Panthers
10. Montreal Canadiens
11. Tampa Bay Lightning
12. Toronto Maple Leafs
13. Atlanta Thrashers
14. New York Islanders
15. Ottawa Senators

I think that its going to be crowded at the bottom this year. Every team from 7-12 will probably be close to a playoff spot. I think Tampa and Florida could both surprise.

West

1. San Jose Sharks
2. Vancouver Canucks
3. Chicago Blackhawks
4. Detroit Red Wings
5. Calgary Flames
6. Columbus Blue Jackets
7. Los Angeles Kings
8. St. Louis Blues
-
9. Dallas Stars
10. Anaheim Ducks
11. Nashville Predators
12. Minnesota Wild
13. Phoenix Coyotes
14. Edmonton Oilers
15. Colorado Avalanche

In the West, its going to be crowded again. I expect Calgary to come out strong, but fall apart at the end of the season, so Columbus could jump them.

For the Cup, I'm going with Vancouver versus Philly. If there are Cinderella teams this year, they are going to be L.A. in the West and Buffalo in the East.

Must be a Flyers fan, that must also suck

Actually, I'm a Canucks fan.

Maybe I should correct that... Sidney Crosby sucks. Minus him, I don't really have a problem with the Penguins.

 here we go again, another year of Crosby sucks

Youngest team captian
Youngest Stanley Cup champion
Youngest Art Ross winner
Youngest Pearson winner
Hart winner
Messier leadership award
3x ESPY for best NHL player
Youngest to 100 points in the NHL
Youngest to 200 carrer points
Youngest player to be named to the First All-Star Game

I would take Crosby any day over OV, at least Crosby knows he is not the only player on the ice.

i don't care how crusty you are, crosby is a very capable hockey player. you may not like him, but he most certainly doesn't suck. i mean, come on, people!

I never said he wasn't a capable player; he is one of the best in the league. But in my personal opinion, Crosby sucks. He is nowhere near as good as everyone thinks, and even on the Penguins Malkin is a better player.

at least he swallows.

LOL.........

My only question about the start of the NHL season is.....will my beloved Blues continue to suck balls or will they finally rise to some sort of prominence? History and my cynical attitude say the former is true. Always has been in the past....at least in the long run....for 42 years and counting.

Have you seen the Blues' marketing slogan for this season?

"The St. Louis Blues....totally dedicated to the endless pursuit of mediocrity"

I'm sorry to say that this won't be the Blues' year to pull themselves out of the abyss into which they have slid. I love them too, have since the 70s.

Some day, you and I will be enemies. When Toronto and St. Louis meet for Sir Stanley's cup.

(we must dream. and in my dream, Toronto wins)

The Blues might not be the best right now, but they are the next Chicago. If they don't make the playoffs this year I will be surprised.

Pretty much. It's sort of the same how I hate the Flames even though apparently they are one of the best teams in the league. Their skill doesn't have anything to do with it; I just think they suck.

Sharkies lose their first game. Unfortunately that doesnt mean much. For me personally the NHL season doesnt begin for real until April.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
The big question after Day One...Will the Bruins win any games????? Damn, they looked flat. Caps were flying. that goal OV got cutting in front of Lucic was awesome. Now the Canes go to Boston, where they have a winning streak going.

The bigger question is how in the world did the Flames manage to beat the Canucks. That was not the right way to start the season, guys.

Calgary may win the west. They are loaded. As are the Caps. No one in US will give a crap if those two met in the finals. Versus and NBC are praying for a Rangers - Kings series

I think they will have to settle for Chicago-Philly as the biggest final, city wise. Though on TSN they were saying that any final with New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago would be good for arousing interest in the game. I think Los Angeles in the final would be really fortunate.

if you're a Canadiens fan, you won't like this:

MONTREAL - The Canadiens will be without the services of All-Star defenseman Andrei Markov for the next four months.

The veteran blue-liner left the Habs' first game of the season late in the contest against the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.

He underwent surgery on Thursday night in Toronto to repair a lacerated tendon in his ankle. He was released from hospital this morning and will return to Montreal today.

In 2008-09, Markov enjoyed a career-year, posting 64 points before missing the last four games of the season plus the playoffs with a shoulder injury.
