New England Patriots - The perfect season -16-0 - Discuss it here!

once again i reiterate from my other thread that the giant played one hell of a game and should be proud of the fact they held there own against the pats. looking forward to the playoffs.
Yes the patriots had a perfect regular season but they have to win the entire post season to truely claim a perfect season, like that of miami of 72(definately not in 2007)

I don't think they are the best "team" ever because the Pats don't have a running game that inspires fear. They are merely effective because they've discovered the dirty secret in the NFL--QBs, Passing Attacks, DLine and CB's capable of intercepting passes--these are the keys to building a Pro Dynasty. In college--you have to be able to run to win--but not in the Pros anymore. But if we're going to hand out the label--Best Team Ever--we need to see the best players in as many positions as possible. That label still belongs to one of the Niners teams from the 80s.

The Patriots have the 2 best players at their positions to ever play Pro Football. Tom Brady is a fucking unstoppable demon of a player. Randy Moss is, simply put, the greatest, most feared player to ever play Pro Football. Tom Brady--best QB ever. Randy Moss--best WR ever.

I personally think a Super Bowl is meaningless for the Patriots this year because they've already kicked the shit out of the best team in the NFC this year --Dallas--so thumping them again is not all that exciting a prospect, really. The best playoff games for the Pats will be in the AFC playoffs, obviously against Indy. That's the only game we all really want to see again.

titsrock what are you talking about there runing game is as good as there passing game and thats as good as it gets. with brady and moss they instill fear on any opponent.

We could plug any RB into the Pats lineup and they'd do things that Lawrence Maroney does. That's my point. The greatest team EVER would have a Hall-of-Fame calibre RB. The Pats are winning with plumbers hauling the rock because the Pats have a pretty solid OLine, not necessarily, a great RB.

The Pats also aren't predictable with their playcalling...which helps the running game too!

what do you mean predictable sometimes brady doesnt know what he is going to do untill he does it that makes him dangerous and as far as the rb goes check this years stats.

Whether you like the New England Patriots or not, if you're a fan of football, you have to admit- that game against the New York Giants was one of the best games of football ever played. You have to love the drama of it- all the records broken, the tremendous plays by both teams. Plus, the fact that, as far as the postseason and a possible trip to the SB is concerned, neither team had anything to play for in this game. They could have both started their third-stringers while the real teams stood on the sidelines and watched.

I'm not a Patriots fan- hell, there have been years where I have absolutely hated the Pats- but as a fan of the game of football, I have to give respect where respect is due.

I have to agree; the Patriots earned that regular season record; they were down to the Giants by the most points that they have been down all year. Also the G-Men didn't rest anyone, not wanting their own pride stomped on. I have more respect for them.

And the Pats will be better next year as they have a top 8 pick in the draft! I was hoping they could pick RB Darren McFadden of Arkansas, but the owners of the actual pick (San Francisco 49ers) won some late games. Maybe McFadden's teammate RB Felix Jones (1117 yards/11 tds on JUST 123 carries!)? Or will they go defense?

Best team ever? If they go all the way....yes. If not, of course not. The 1972 Dolphins are the only team to run the entire table....at least so far. Jacksonville presents a tough matchup for them if they meet in the playoffs....a ball-control offense with a solid rushing game, a quarterback who doesn't make mistakes and a voracious, swarming defense. Indy and Dallas might present problems as well. We'll see but you gotta give 'em credit so far....even though I despise them.

i see them losing in the snow at home just like when this all started, when they cheated out the Raiders to win that 1st title.

I don't see the Patriots taking a running back high in the draft. If I were them I would probably trade the first rounder they have left down for some extra picks. Just think what they would have been able to do if they still had the other first rounder. It's kind of a scary thought.

I bet the Patriots feel spoilt for choice lol... If I was the Pats GM and I was gonna keep that high pick, I would go for either a Safety or probably another running back to help make this team more balanced, other than that, they don't need this pick...

And this team being the best team ever? Not even close. The NFL these days is so watered down. In the 70's and 80's You had the Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Redskins, Giants, Raiders, Dolphins, Power house teams that the likes of Bradshaw, Montana, Simms, Plunkett, Marino, Thiesmann had to deal with every year. Put Tom Brady in their class, please. Brady is very good, that is it. The Patriots didn't have that good of competition this season compared to the Dolphins faced in the 70s and Cowboys later on. Plus you have the change of the rules in the NFL, including the salary cap rules etc. All of these factors make the comparison of todays team to another, impossible. So you just can't say that the Pats are the best ever. But I will say that they are the best team in the last two decades.
