Every time I watch the NBA I'm reminded how bad the officiating is in basketball. Probably the worst officiated professional sport around. Celtics knock the ball out of bounds with under 2 minutes to go, a reviewable play, the officials huddle and still get it wrong. Too many star players always get the calls their way, regardless of the play.
Like I said in an earlier post, I expect more fouls to be called in this series just because of the nature of the way the Celts play and the Lakers attempt to match it. That said, there have been some close calls...I thought Pierce made a great block on Artest...looks like he grabbed Artest's off arm though on the replay. Close call but it could have gone either way.
The call on the Gasol out of bounds play...keep in mind for replay it has to be clear and convincing. I suppose they determined while it may have appeared it was off Garnett the fact that Gasol got a piece of the ball (even if slightly) made it not clear and convincing.
Not excusing it..but just stating what I see as the rationale.
Celtics win the series in seven, but Kobe by far is the best basketball player since Jordan.
One of the greatest..definitely 1 of the top 2 between he and Lebron. If there were no Lebron...then that statement would be true.
Lebron is the most physically gifted, skilled basketball player I have ever seen. I didn't know if he could life up to the hype but he's exceeded my expectations. A few years back we marveled at Tayshaun Prince blocking Reggie Miller's break away layup in the Eastern Conf. Finals. Lebron now does about 10 or so of those a season. A guy that big should not be that skilled and that fast.
Not to stray too far off but some have wondered what kind of TE Lebron might make in football. Consider this, Tony Gonzalez is a HOF TE who was a good BBall player in college. He was nowhere near as fast as Lebron nor was he as tall, maybe a toss up on strength and certainly couldn't jump nowhere near as high. Can you imagine Lebron on a football field as a TE??
