For being 7'6, he really wasn't much of a defensive presence. He wasn't a very good rebounder for his size either. Ah well. He's definitely a 'what could have been'.

He definitely changed the game. you wouldn't attack a 7'6 man like you would a 6'10 guy for sure. plus unlike most big man, he can shoot.

I really hope my favorite player allen iverson comes back to the nba this season.

he was giving the lakers all kinds of fits in that playoff series before he got hurt. He could play some good defense in the rare times he was fully healthy.

He was a good player, but alot of it was due to his size. I always wondered what would happen if Shawn Marion and Yao Ming switched bodies in their primes. Marion would have been a fucking beast, and Yao Ming would have been useless. Anyway Yao's main contributions to the NBA came off the court, and for that, he's probably a Hall of Famer. He helped spread the game, almost as an ambassador for the league and the sport.

I agree. Yao got players like Kobe and Lebron to endorse Chinese products.

Rumoer has it that shaq and sir charles is teaming up on tnt. wow. Remember 11 years ago shaq and charles got into a fight. this should be interesting.

I would definitely be interested o see Shaq on TNT or ESPN. I don't know for sure if he would be good or not but I'd at least like to see him give it a try if that's what he wants to do. There is certainly the potential for him to be great.

If the center position was so easy to play, Shawn Bradley and Chris Mihm would be hall of fame players. Yao had some skill to him, he didnt make in the NBA by being a statue.

Yao was not only tall, he had the skills. He might not have dominant with Shaq numbers in his prime but he was a center you respected. I remember back in the day when lakers were playing the rockets and Shaq actually tried playing defense.

Agreed, Yao was a very good player. It is a shame that his body betrayed him the way that it did. Of course, his career was shortened by not having much rest in the off season what with his commitments to China.

Yao is still young. I hope after a year or two his body feels better and he decides to come back. I don't think we will ever see another center like him. the same can be said about shaq but shaq is past his prime. i think yao still in his prime.

I'm sure we'll see lots of average centers in our lifetime. He wasn't that great. 19 and 9 career averages. Made it past the 1st round once. Someone mentioned he's a hall of famer. I disagree. Half of a decent career and bringing fans to the sport doesn't make you a hall of famer.

I disagree with you there Diva. The Basketball Hall of Fame isn't strictly for players and doesn't strictly recognize exploits on the court. Ambassadors for the sport also get recognized, and Yao is someone who'll always be remembered for the mark he made on the sport. If it was simply the NBA Hall of Fame, ok he's not worthy. But it's the Basketball Hall of Fame, and he was important in the history of the sport. But I do agree with you that he wasn't as good as some people make him out to be. If he were a power forward (which to be honest might've been a better position for him if it weren't for the fact that he's 14 feet tall), 19-9 would just be good numbers, not great numbers. Centers can get overrated due to the lack of them.

Respect! But I still disagree.

its official deron williams will play in turkey if the nba locks out. i think that dumb because he is in the final year or his contract and if he hurts, he is going to lose a lot of money.

who do you think will have the most success as a coach with their new team mike brown (lakers), dwayne casey (raptors) or mark jackson (warriors)? I talking about 5 years down the road.
