Thanks. I'm rather familiar with Tangerine Dream albums from late 1970's.
Art Bears: Yes, they were different, hence they are/were labeled as avant-garde. Some related bands: Slapp Happy (more approachable, lighter side of avant-garde), Henry Cow, News from Babel.
