one movie i cant stand, but yet people like it is Terrence Malick's Tree of Life movie. There's an awesome scene where he shows the creation of the universe and life on Earth, but that was it! The rest of theat movie fucking sucked!

If you like war films (that are more than just shoot 'em ups that glorify war): Das Boot and The Beast are little known, but great films. For a classic war film, the 1930 version of All Quiet on the Western Front is pretty amazing too.
