Movies on computer converted to DVD

Hello All,
I have a question and if anyone can answer and help, it would be much appreciated.
Can movies, in wmv, avi, and mpeg, formats be burned to a dvd burner, then played on a Sony dvd player for the tv?
I do not have a dvd burner or player on my comp (low end), but would like to free up some hard drive space.
I don't know how much info can be stored on one dvd if this is possible.
I have several scenes I would like to save this way, then delete them from my comp.
Just wondering if anyone knows if this can be done and would like to show off their skills.
Thanks in advance.

I've done it before with VCDs, but I couldn't make a DVD. VCD's are fairly simple and you could even use regular CDs. Roxio and Nero are excellent programs for it.
However, if your main incentive is to free up disk space then just burn your files onto a DVD as a data disk. This way, in the future you will have much more flexibility with your files, and they will also take up less room on the disk.

Hi, I use Nero Vision Express 2 or Sony DVD Architech 2.0b to convert avi files to DVD, works fine, nero is more simple to use.

Sorry my English is poor!

are you talking to me?
if your SONY DVD players supports playing files of these formats, then YES
you can burn various videos in a DVD and watch them from TV...
SONY's models who support this kind of playback are
DVP-LS785V, DVP-NS32, DVP-NS765 P/S, DVP-NS955...
now, if you just got a regular DVD player, you should try to convert files in VCD's,
but not in DVD, each movie will be stored in CD's...

You can convert any video file to dvd and play it on any dvd player, but...

1 - You can use Nero to burn the dvd, however, the file must already be in MPEG2 or better format. Meaning if it's an AVI it has to be converted to MPEG2 first, which requires different software. Nero can convert MPEG1 files to MPEG2 if you have the plug-in. They also make seperate software to convert AVI to DVD. There are also converters for the other formats. Also, if your software converts AVI to MPEG it usually can burn the dvd. I use "Aare AVI to DVD Converter" and/or "Cucusoft AVI to DVD Converter". Both are excellant.

2 - Whether your player can play the dvd or not is determined by the type of dvd you record your movie on. Some players require the DVD +R (Pioneer) standard and some require the DVD -R (Sony) standard, which is why i own a recorder that uses both. My Phillips player requires +R dvd's and my Sony requires -R dvd's.

Hey, I was just wondering whether WMV files can easily be burnt onto a DVD?

Thanks buddy, that's great, didn't know the conversion was so easy.

Anyone got a link to a convertor which allows you free access without tarnishing the video with a watermark?

My computer keeps freezing everytime I try to convert a longer video into WMV, anyone know why this is the case?
