Most common spelling mistake / typo ??

The worst one in my book is by far when people make a lot into one word. That pisses me off to no end. So in case you didn't know this already, it is a lot, not alot.

If you check out Jenni Apple or Candi Apple you may just see their names in the link descriptions spelled Appel instead. Technically still correct, just not in english. :D

Some common things I see, not necessarly on this board but in general is Accept/Except and Affect/Effect.

Let's not forget Y/Why.

Considering accents have come into the written words more now. Also that most people type how they speak. As well as 99% of the world don't even use Queens English anymore. In that figure the fact that the English language isn't their first language. Then you can now expect typo's from the way you speak or type.

Oh and alot AAS is in the Oxford English dictionary as one word. But many do miss spell it by spelling it allot.

the biggest typos are due to culture. when i say color, uk says colour. same with flavour. it means nothing. :hatsoff:

or... when they say one as 1. or four as 4. lmao

Confusion between "it's" which means "it is" and "its" meaning "belonging to it"
Singulars and plurals eg criterion and phenomenon are the singular form and criteria and phenomena are plurals.
The moronic use of i to denote the first person singular.Perhaps the users don't have sufficient self esteem to allocate themselves an upper case letter!

Actually allot is a word. Are you sure "alot" is in the Oxford English Dictionary, I went to this site and typed in "alot" and nothing came up. http://www.askoxford.com/dictionaries/?view=uk

I usually get annoyed at "there, their, they're" more than anything. I don't think that the argument about higher education washes either. I only went to two years of college, during which I took no English classes. So basically, I have a high school education when it comes to that. And my grammar and spelling are near perfect.

Of course I also scored 1520 on the SAT.

typos are one thing (and i confess to greta/great typo) but why oh why does the U for you ur for your or you're and all those continue to be the accepted internets speak? me? i dun n0, do U,ne1 ? ugh makes me nuts to be in an im reading that sort of stuff.

typos are one thing

Speaking as a physician, there are in fact type-os, and too, are indeed one thing; there are also type-os 2, which, while having some intrinsic value on their own merit, do somewhat pale as far as sensational impact and continuity is concerned when compared to the original (cinematic release, being specific, here, unlike of the predilections one certain "Primate" of the December 25th Century).

As an aside, currently on the grueling concert trail and most likely getting run-over in the process is a reasonably well-known, blarney-soaked quasi-musician still living with his parents by the name of Type O'Negative, who, as of late has embarked upon a hunger strike well into its second or third hour, during which time, he has abstained from consuming any vegans what so ever.

Too bad, for the rest of us carnivores, if you care to think of it.

Funnily enough i was just about to make this same very valid point :D

I generally check my spelling over before I press the submit/enter/send button. If it's a handwritten letter (which I still do on occasion) I always read over it a few times to try and make sure there were no mistakes in my spelling or grammar. I'm not always perfect, but I make an effort as I know how I write is a reflection of me.
