More Taxes?

More Taxes? This is beyond ridiculous and should be stopped in its tracks. Now the Internet?

Nov. 1: The day the Internet tax moratorium expires.

They're never happy it seems, if they must have more taxes put higher tax on cigarettes, ******* and junk food. Things we don't need, vices so to speak. I myself am sick and tired of this crap. When I get in line behind a woman at the grocery, see sodas, cookies, cake , candy, precooked high dollar deli dishes (potato salad etc. ) and she hands the clerk a food assistance card? WTF? Save tax dollars by not letting people who receive this help by all this fast and junk food crap. I don't begrudge anyone receiving assistance to feed their ********, but I do when my tax dollars are going for a conveyor belt of junk food. They don't allow t-paper, soap, vitamins etc , needed things yet they can buy candy, cookies and cokes?

Sorry I was derailing my own thread. :o I just get so angry sometimes. Moving on......

Now, the way this works is some genius who probably has a vested interest in this has proposed the bill. If the bill passes, it won't rake in the estimated fun money congress expects, so that they will be ****** to open up all kinds of expensive ways to watch internet users to make sure they are paying their tax. That software won't work as expected and will be a lot more expensive then estimated, so that will up the pressure for the original idiot to show how smart he was to come up with the idea in the first place. A committee will be formed with a name like the Internet Freedom Tax Commission to oversee it's progress. It will be determined that a special group of internet police needs to be established to further crack down on ******* internet users, and the fees will skyrocket in an attempt to pay for it all. They will continue to run in the red, and will be encouraged to stay the course that in only another 20 years or so, they will start to break even if they develop this new technology destined to save billions at a cost of only a few hundred million dollars per year. Tapping into Social Security will become an option to help fund the disaster, as numerous politicians will be making a bundle in their reelection campaign funds, by companies making money on the whole scheme.

It's funny because it's true.

Maybe they should put a tax on setting foot in a public library next.

I can't believe nobody finds any of this important? :( This quote only half of story.

WASHINGTON — Congress faces a looming deadline of Nov. 1: The day the Internet tax moratorium expires.

If it doesn't extend or make permanent this moratorium, state and local governments will be free to impose taxes on Internet access, products or services purchased online and discriminatory fees that treat those purchases differently from other types of sales.

State and local government officials have been eyeing such tax possibilities for years. There's an endless list of ways officials can tax the Internet including the taxing of email, downloads and a whole host of other transactions, services and emerging tools yet to come.

“New taxes on Internet access amounts to turning the information superhighway into a high-priced toll road,” said Monica McGuire of the National Association of Manufacturers regarding the potential new costs to manufacturers, their suppliers and consumers.

The original Internet Tax Freedom Act of 1998 created the tax-free moratorium, which Congress extended two times. Legislation introduced in both Houses this year — S. 156 and H.R. 743 – by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., respectively, would make the ban permanent.

This was just on the my News again tonight. Any thoughts? I can't believe the members here have nothing to say. I had thought it an important issue.

This will effect us all if it ever passes. They have no right in my way of thinking. Whats next, taxing us for watching TV and listening to the radio? Watching the birds maybe?

We have been blessed with 4 more years to complain, write in and do all we can to **** the thought completely.

i do think that making our state reps and senators aware of not wanting new taxes the best way to begin . the habit of slowly taxing this and that is the beginning of seeing the results of our **** poor economic leadership. as greenspan mentions in his book , bush has been a joke on the economy.

Back To Serious Bus.

From LL post #9
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky. accompanied by Sen. John Sununu, R-NH, meets reporters on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, during a news conference calling for a permanent end to taxes on the Internet.
^Somebody Is actually on our SIDE ? I'll take It !

I believe that the narrow margin of reaction here, is simply as a result of a ''we'll cross that bridge after it gets put into law'' mindset.

Egad, One week you could be faxing & e- mailing our "reps" in protest of one matter, and then start the whole thing over again, the following monday. ~

I live in California. I already pay sales tax on internet purchases. I also pay all sorts of "access fees" directly to Comcast for my broadband connection.

Why should I care about this? We need tax revenue. I can choose to purchase things differently if the "taxes" become too expensive.

If it becomes too "economical" to buy things online then retailers will close down their "big boxes" and "bricks-and-mortar" establishments and cities with a bunch of abandoned buildings won't receive taxes too, you know :dunno:

We need to not be afraid to pay taxes. We need to become much more acute as to what the fuck the politicians ACTUALLY DO with our money.

As best as I can figure, they make great promises about what'll happen to our money, but then they waste it on stupid things. Like raises for themselves.

A return to a part time State Legislature would be a good start !

I think that many of us simply get beaten down . . discouraged, if you will . .

"We deserve the government we get"

"Let it all go to he!!"

A dysfunctional disposition if you ask me :(

A maze of bureaucracy to sort out.

Yes, like the Dept of Defense taking about 64 million to camouflage the navy building that looks like a swastika so the few people who can actually see it from the air (and actually care) don't get offended.

Yes, that is more than a waste, but my thread on it had my voice on that. What a damn waste of funds. Contribute it to Walter Reed at least and help fix what shouldn't have broke in the first place.

So you're ok with having to pay yet another tax every time you log on the net? Sorry but I'm not. I think we pay more than enough now for access. As for purchases that is another thing all together. I would expect to pay taxes on purchases on the net if applicable.

I do agree that all should pay closer attention to where the taxes we do pay are going and if they are being applied to what they are for. I'm certainly not afraid to pay taxes either, as long as I see them as justified. Apples and oranges though. I don't see being how being vigilant has anything to do with the fact that tax this, tax that is getting out of hand. :dunno: So if one tax doesn't work for them, you say tax something else to make up for it? That's ok with you?

Do you smoke or ***** ******* ever? If you do I say tax you more instead of my internet access. Those are totally unneeded vices in my way of thinking, luxuries. I even felt the same when I smoked, I would have accepted more tax on cigs instead of on my land. The internet is not just porn and games. Its a much needed educational tool for anyone in school in this day and time from preschool to College. Just my :2 cents:

We are ALREADY taxed on using the internet. We pay taxes on the fucking computer we buy, taxes on all goddamn software I put in it, taxes on the modem, taxes on the wireless fucking router, taxes EVERY FUCKING MONTH to my internet services provider, PROPERTY taxes on the fucking house my computer sits it, taxes the motherfucking air can I use to clean the keyboard, taxes on every single fucking thing I buy on the internet (It's called shipping and handling - UPS and FedEx pay HUGE corporate taxes)...If I have to pay on more goddamn motherfucking tax I am gonna shoot somebody :ak47: with a fucking *** I buy over the internet.

Great, now the NSA is watching my ass.

Not all states pay taxes on internet purchases. I think all citizens should pay the same sales tax on internet purchases. Even less populated states like Montana/Idaho/the Dakotas should pay a sales tax.

Comcast assesses various "fees" which are nothing more then taxes. I'm sure other broadband providers do the same.

This particular bill, that the thread discussed, is going to be "re-upped" for another 4 years, according to the Wall Street Journal today. The Senate wants to send a bill to the President which permanently enacts this particular ban.

The bigger issue is that many Companies are misleading consumers by enacting all sorts of "fees" and "taxes" which are nothing but revenue generators. In California, we have McDonald's and Whole Foods instituting "Eat in" Taxes and "Take out" taxes. Cell phone providers and telephone companies have been threatened with lawsuits for creating all sorts of "fees" with names that imply they've been assessed by local or state governments.

When companies call "fees," "taxes," all this does is cloud the importance of the word "tax" which should be the sole domain of the government.

As for "sin" taxes--cigs/*******/casinos/lotteries. I am against cigarette taxes because this is nothing but a tax on poor people. If cigs aren't going to be outlawed completely (which I would rather go in that direction), then the annual ritual of increasing cigarrette taxes in lieu of real taxes is getting to be a joke. Cigarrette taxes do nothing to discourage present smokers and they aren't a deterrent for new smokers. They also don't increase state monies enough. There were a couple stories recently out where some state lotteries aren't actually giving schools as much money as they thought they were because too much money is being spent on the marketing of the lottery itself.

I think Casinos aren't paying enough taxes, generally speaking, and I'm in favor of Religions paying property taxes. I think that needs to be looked at.

One thing that personally annoys me are all the various Bond Initiatives that crop up about 6 months before an election. I've only noticed this since 2000 and, again I can only use California as my example, but what happens out here is that you'll begin to see all sorts of "construction sites" setup around various cities and highways about 6 months before an election. You'll also hear about various Bonds that are needed to repair this road and that road and this school and that school....and no followup work is ever done on the Bonds that get approved. I no longer vote for any Bonds because these initiatives are nothing more than pools of money for state and city officials to spend on other projects.

Okay..rant over for now.
