Does it really matter what they do?
The news will really be about the next player to get caught using steroids.

Get the Jays out of A.L. East and put them in a division with Pittsburgh.

I swear as soon as you do that the Pirates will win the World Series and the Jays still won't make the playoffs.

The one and only.
This is probably the worst idea since the DH Rule, the Wild Card slot, or changing it to three divisions per league (take your pick). Baseball was fine to begin with, it doesn't need to be fucked with! :angry face:

This is a pretty dumb idea that would basically just be prone to a bunch of teams arguing why they should be in the same division as the worst teams in the league. Too much could go wrong here.

Not a fan of this idea at all. Sounds like Selig is trying to give each team a better chance of making the playoffs without addressing the 10-ton gorilla in the room (salary cap).

Agree 100%

Read this passage from the reference:

"As a result, teams would not be tied to a division, but given opportunity to change divisions based on geography, payroll and their intention to contend or not." (bold emphasis is mine).

Who wants to watch a team who has no intention of contending? BAD IDEA.

What does that mean? Whether or not the team plans to actually try and win?

I didn't know there were baseball teams that don't even bother trying.

No wonder baseball sucks ass.

that would ruin a bunch of rivalries and give mediocre teams playoff Chances. me no likey.

The reason behind this move would be to give mediocre teams a Chance to compete and get into the playoffs. For example, a mediocre team like the Blue Jays would opt to leave the AL East where they have no Chance of competing with Boston and New York and would join the AL Central where they would have a much better Chance of competing. I sort of like this idea because its gonna give teams that otherwise would not have a Chance of competing a Chance to get into the playoffs.

I've been a season ticket holder for the San Diego Padres for quite some time now and apparently, since I have renewed my seats for the upcoming season, I want to watch a team who has no plans on contending. They have had some "encouraging" seasons in the past, but I always seem to get the feeling that I will die before that team wins a World Series. Damn my loyalty to a disappointing team LOL!

On topic, though... Agreed; idiotic idea.

I'm of the opinion that we need to go ~RADICAL~ 100%. Get rid of the AL/NL -- just go to a Single Table (like the Premiership) and send the last 2 teams down to AAA. That will ensure that owners actually spend money to win.

You know, t-rock, that makes total sense but MLB will never go for it. Imagine the Pirates being relegated to AAA status and their place is taken in the NL Central by the....Toledo Mud Hens?

I love the premise however. If you don't intend to compete....you shouldn't qualify as a major league franchise....period.
