There are free antivirus programs. Check out download.com. But remember, "you get what you pay for". I wouldn't hesitate to give up a few dollars for something as important as protecting your computer from viruses.

If Norton can't remove your virus, you'll have to do it manually. Type the name of the virus in Google and one of the links will give you detailed instructions on how to remove it.

I never quarantine files that have been infected. I always delete them. However, I'm comfortable in knowing that I can fix whatever possibly may go wrong on my computer.

so aces after my adware run create file for quarantine then delete straight away?

there is a free version of AVG Antivirus that i use myself and also install when i build PC's for other people, it's great for a free program, just as good as any AV software you pay for IMO.

Not even close, sorry.

The reason it's free is because it's not very advanced. Compare this to McAfee or Norton and it not even comes close. Yes they might take that extra bit of memory. But peace of mind is worth that. Like A&J said, you get what you pay for. So do the sums on how good free is.

Well as I have said I have used it in the past and never had any problems with it, nor have the people i have installed it for, yet strangely enough when i have used Norton, i did get a virus, with AVG, none.

I have norton 2004 and I never got a virus except one time when I got spyaxe (a shitty spyware) that forced me to reformat my machine.

I have Norton and it has worked fine for me.

Though I here that Norton is far from the state-of-the-art.

The 2007 edition of norton is a pita despite its very efficient. The drawback with the 2007 dition is that you can configure it manually because all is in the automatic mode.

thx everyone Norton 07 installed
btw i had my harddrive cleaned too

Yes, that's a good idea. I had to adjust some internal parts once and couldn't find a screwdriver. A 9mm worked just as well.
