ok, this thread is for any freeones members who own a computer.

you know with windows you've got that little yellow shield shape thing in the tray saying "updates are ready for your computer"
well i usually ignore them.
i have the "if it ain't broke ,don't fix it " mentality.
but about 2 weeks ago i installed all the updates and patches that accumulated , about 25 of them.
well boom, a few days later, super virus.
the black screen of death.
took me all day and night just to get the desktop up.
another day to install the latest norton and malewarebytes and find the bitch.
trojan horse " alunaxyd.dll " plus this backdoor tideservinf a106081.sys thing.
quarantined, deleted, but they keep coming back.
changing my settings all over the place, error messages left and right, programs not responding, sound problems.......and more, the comp is a mess.

my point, has anybody ever downloaded updates and gotten viruses after?
i read on norton website that this is probably how i got mine.

whats your opinion or experiences?
thanks

I don't know how to solve or help you with your problem, but that was funny. Unless some members go to the public library to look at a porn message board...

yeah, i'm a sarcastic ass, i admit it.

btw, is your name referring to a wizard named Sleeves or to the sleeves of a wizards shirt or coat?

thats the important question here.

Try to restore to a past day, before you installed the updates. That might not work due to the fact they were system updates being installed, so there is a chance you might have to go into the registry and find whatever is being affected and attempt to clean that up. Google the trojan and other guy and see if anyone can get you a better way of dealing with those fuckers. Also keep up with the updates, they're usually important and do behind the scenes work in you computer.

I usually install updates about once a week. Having XP at home, XP upgraded to Vista upgraded to Windows 7 at work. Never had a serious virus. You are more likely to pick up a virus or trojan if you do not update, as most of the updates close the security holes that allow the virus' and trojans in.

Say, which version of windows do you use? XP still or 7?

What actual Antivirus plus what Firewall do you use?

But i can really say:

You should really get any update installed as soon as you get the possibility, because if you don't you let your system run with loopholes that those update need to fix.

So i assume you have been having an open hole in your PC and some virus found its way and could settle down before you fixed that hole.

There are a couple of possibilites to try and get that bugger out, but they rely on your actual setup regarding software etc and the possibility to maybe go the hard way and delete pretty much all from the system harddrive and re-install

If you have to do that, I advise to go for Windows 7 right then and there. I am on that for a month and it really is way better and securer than before, had XP.

:dunno: Next time save yourself the trouble. Sit the damn thing outsider with a sign that says, "Free Shit".:o

I highly recommend getting an external hardrive to do backups on. I use a software that does that every other day over night.

So if I crash I can always go back on most of what I got

Those things don't cost that much, I got me a terabyte drive and it is well worth it

I always do the updates and never have had an issue. In fact, from my experience, you leave yourself vulnerable to just such intrusions by trojans and viruses if you don't regularly perform the updates. Same with Norton....I update religiously.

Also, there are 2 programs that I have found to be a lifesaver whenever such a disaster strikes. One is a registry protector called Spyhunter that asks your permission to load any new *.exe file that has never before been executed. I have preempted more than a few attacks in this manner. Also, Norton makes a program called "Go Back" that is a super-easy and effective registry restorer (MUCH better than what MS gives you) in case something does sneak onto your HD. You simply jump in your time machine and go back to an earlier state for your registry.

I feel your pain, MP. Nothing like being violated by a virus.

thanks all.

yeah its xp.
i had avast antivirus when it hit the fan.
after i somehow got my desktop up i installed norton 2010 and malwarebytes.
norton found it right away, but it keeps coming back.

system restore doesnt work now, no restore point work, i guess thats part of the viruses actions.

the first virus was alunaxyd.dll, thats now supposedly quarantined.
now i get- backdoor tideservinf - a106081.sys .
there is very little info on both.
a few have it but no solutions.

so now i'm burning all my music and vids to cd and will probably do a system recovery after and lose everything.

btw, do you have to buy windows 7 or is there a way to get it free?

thanks again, and nice name wizard sleeves, learned something new today.

I would not get a free version because, really, you are recovering from an infected system and want to take chances on your new operating system? Who knows what you install on your computer with that free windows 7?

The Windows 7 Premium 64-Bit Retail Version cost me 126 Euros (~169 US $) but it is safe, so easy to use and hell, the grafix and features are not to be sneezed at, too.

Believe me, I could have gotten some cracked version, but I have some buddies who work as admins in IT companies, and they say:

Save yourself the stress. Get the original software.

So, meesterperfect, please do not try to save on this one.

Thank you for that, honestly, I havent laughed like that in a long time!

Haha, glad I could humor you.

Get yourself a copy of Hiren's BootCD 10.4 on the interwebs somewhere.

Hey Meester.

hope you are out of trouble now.

I know how that feels when you get fucked up system messages and can't use that computer right like you want to

But the good thing is:

Once you are outta trouble, it will be so smooth - partially because the virus etc will be gone, and then because its always important to weed out the bullshit that crowds our computers

I am sending a big Thumbs-Up from across the pond :)

thanks!
but its still in there, i'm still burning my stuff in case i have to reformat.
its changing my settings, every few hours it makes my comp lose sound until i restart, plus half a dozen other annoyances.

gotta search for a fix again tonight.

You should set up your windows settings and allow those updates to DL themselves automatically.

I leave my computer on 24/7, my Cable modem is left on 24/7. I have Windows set up to automatically DL updates everyday at 3:00am.

When I first got my computer, I ignored those updates. About a year later my computer started acting up.

I went to windows and there were like 100 updates waiting for me. It took me a week to DL all of them.

I found out from Microsoft that you dont need a antivirus software like Norton if you do what I did stated above. For the past 2 years I have had no problem with my computer after allowing the updates to DL themselves. I have no Norton, or any antivirus software on my computer.
