It seems foolish to place 25 thousand dollars in the ground. That would feed many hungry kids. http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/manufacturing/2009-07-09-michael-jackson-casket_N.htm
He did give piles of money to charity during his life so I can't begrudge him if he wanted an expensive casket. And like you say it is his money to blow on whatever he wanted.Garrison Garrison, you are correct but I disagree with you.
Its his money, or was.
But by that point of view everything "extra' we buy could have gone to feed kids.

Eh?!? If we didn't hear about it we wouldn't know if they did anything good with their money or not?!? They can't bloody win can they? You moan that they don't do anything 'good' with it then moan that when they do they tell everyone!! Make your mind up!!People with money almost never do anything good with it and if they do everyone has to hear about it.

It does seem like less financially successful of us would like to tell the rich what to do with their money.:dunno: The family bought that casket(Just like James Brown's) because of MJ's love for Brown that went back to his childhood.
Jackson gave over $300 million dollars to charity while alive & 20% of his future estate shall be set aside for charity:

But on the other hand the Princess of Wales did not sexually abuse young boys.As much as I dislike MJ the man, you have to take your hat off to this. As a point of comparison, did you know that Diana Spencer (AKA The People's Princess) divvied up her estate between a small group of already extremely wealthy people? Nothing for the aids charities, nothing for the homeless. So much for her caring for the "poor and the stricken" when the cameras of the world were not upon her.
He was 500 million in debt at the time of his death, what's 25k more?
