Mia Khalifa is among the world’s most-watched women. Yet the porn industry is keeping the profits.

If an actor pursues the adult film industry, there are two options with wildly different compensation paths. One is the traditional production studio that pays actors as contractors — a flat rate for scenes, so volume is key. That is what Khalifa did, and in her case, about $1,000 each is typical, Helmy said, with the lion’s share of profits from subscriptions and ad revenue going to production companies.

Another is an independent model that provides a bigger cut and options for residuals.

But that money does not always go back to actors. If Pornhub paid Khalifa a portion of advertising revenue per view similar to YouTube, the videos could have generated about $501,000 using an amount disclosed by Pornhub, said Jason Urgo, the chief executive of Social Blade, a third-party analytics site for YouTube.

Well, as I said in the other thread about her, maybe she made a bad contract decision early on. Course, maybe she got the going rate and it was just a standard deal. Why would any porn production company have given her a share of profits back then, when there would have been a line of girls willing to get naked and chug cock standing right behind her? Take it or leave it. She was a nobody. If she came back now, I'm sure that she could get a much better offer from the start. But in an industry where newbie girls come & go by the month, if not the day, is anybody surprised? :dunno: I mean, look at the Identify the Babe threads on this board. There are LOADS of one hit wonders that disappear after their one & only scene.

It does go to show just how sucky most of the people in porn are paid, at least for the actual scenes on camera in general. It's no wonder the industry has mostly gone downhill for a little under two decades now, and in some ways has never been good. If people want more very attractive sexually open minded people to get into porn paying them like crap probably isn't the best way to have that come about, especially if people want them to stick around for more than a couple of years. Sure, there have many attractive people in the industry and there are many now, but I wonder what could have been if much more of the performers had more financial security from what they do, or if more of them didn't have to go into escorting or stripping to actually make decent amounts of cash. How many models over the years that most of us would have liked to see would have been willing or even would have liked to do porn but for those reason. For the stigma and the potential future repercussions porn can bring to people in it it's sad to realize they might not make that much more than an average office worker directly from it, and then that's only if they put out a large number of scenes a year. They also aren't going to be working at their profession nearly as long.

As much as I've come to hate things like cam shows, instagram like places, or sites like onlyfans as the technical production quality of the material coming from them are usually terrible, in the end I can't blame the people in the industry for moving more and more into those types of delivery services for their material. A lot of them get paid more than working at an actual big porn producer, they get to cut out more of the middlemen, they can do the type of scenes they want and are more comfortable with, and they get to keep control over the rights to the content they make.

^ Awesome post. If we had the ability to rep in this forum I would rep you a thousand times over. For me the quality decline has been much more recent - the past 4 years or so. All the awesome women in porn either don't stick around long, or they stay long enough to let their looks go to shit. I haven't joined a hardcore porn site in 3 or 4 years. Im also sick and tired of longtime hot softcore models turning ugly once they get into hardcore porn. And yeah it makes me depressed to think about all the hot models that would have done porn if the pay would have been better. I heard rumors the reason Akira Lane didnt stick to hardcore is because she felt insulted by the pay she was being offered. Seems understandable considering she was the longtime softcore queen running several of her own businesses. And an awesome woman like that seemed willing to offer her services to the porn industry. Pay that woman!!!!
