Martin Scorsese Jumping on the 3D Bandwagon

The other thing that people need to realize about 3D is that it holds another purpose. It is also an anti piracy tool.Bootlegging a 3D movie with a cell phone or regular camcorder is pretty useless.

Other than that,3D pretty much sucks in live action movies because they always try to over use it.

If I were making a 3D movie, the only thing that I would use it for is small particle effects like dust and debris floating around, and that's about it.

As for Hugo,it doesn't look that bad for a kid's movie,but I'm not a kid,so I probably won't be seeing it.

I never saw the appeal to be honest. It makes movies look fake. I mean you can get a good immersive atmosphere from some movies. But if they are done in 3D then the atmosphere is thrown out the window in such a manner that said window isn't even opened first before hand. I tend to stay away from all movies done in 3D nowadays. I wait for the standard version to come out on DVD.

You talkin to him?

I wish that image was in 3D :(

True, trouble is they make it hard to see a 3D movie in its 2D format. I couldn't find a cinema showing Thor near me in the 2D format!!

PS - we already have 3D cinema. It's called theatre!!

That's the point of what I'm talking about. It justifies higher ticket prices and keeps down piracy. The studios look at this as a win win.For the public,it's an annoyance.

The easiest solution is to stop paying theater prices for 3D movies an if it's something that you actually want to see, just wait for it on video.

For Hollywood, money talks, and if we the public stop paying to see 3D movies, they will stop making them.Simple as that.

:rofl2:

fuck 3d.

actually, im astonished the fads still going.

or is it?

It's not really a fad. The film industry is doing this because so many people have been skipping the movie theater in order to watch a film online. The 3D effect drives people into the theaters, offsetting losses.

but it is a fad. it was a fad in the 50s. it was a fad in the 80s. and its a fad now.

people will eventually get sick of it again.

No, it's not a fad. The film industry is expanding it to be a normal part of watching action, animated and adventure movie blockbusters because it's one of the sure fire ways to get people into the theaters.

It doesn't drive people into theatres though. The popularity of 3D movies is already on the decline. But yes it was a gimmick to try to lure people back from watching movies online/on their new sexy HD tellys. The cinema going audiences can see through this gimmick to the real reason it is being done. & they don't like it!!
Why pay more money to watch a movie projected with inferior lighting?

I dont remember it in the 80's squallumz, except for that lame jaws 3 or 4.
oh hey whats up?
There were quite a few in the 80s, Jaws 3, Friday 13th 3, Amityville 3 (can you see a pattern here!) As well as Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone.

I don't see how it's on the decline seeing that nearly all the blockbusters for the next 2 years are scheduled with 3D and that theaters can charge extra for 3D films.

I agree.

Although 3D is a gimmick in the sense that it now allows the theaters to up charge for movies...it is here to stay as it's not a passing phase in the industry.

It's like trying to say color was a gimmick phase. We see reality in color and we see reality in multiple dimensions...movie makers have found it practical to deliver 3D or the way we see reality ..more and more in movies ...and it's staying.

Looks like an interesting movie but I don't watch 3d it gives me a headache.

I tripple dare you to see the Mount St. Helens eruption in an IMAX Dome then....:elaugh:
:uohs:

the 3D aspect is hihly overrated, to start with, people end up with headaches from them, and even more so the studios dont make too much extra money from them, the only reason studios think this works for box office earnings is because the tickets for IMAX theatres are more costly than the $5 you pay for a normal theatre. 3D can be cool in some ways, movie theatres is not one of those ways
