Governor Deval Patrick Declares Martial Law, Announces Travel Ban In Mass.

Govenor Deval Patrick declared martial law in Massachusetts Friday afternoon for the blizzard that could bring up to 3 feet of snow.

He also announced he has signed an executive order to ban all travel on all roads in the state starting at 4 p.m. Friday.

There are some exceptions to the ban, including emergency workers, those who work in hospitals and media, and others required to be at their jobs.

At a news conference at the MEMA bunker in Framingham, Patrick said those who violate the motor vehicle ban could face fines and even jail time, but he told reporters it’s not about the punishment, they simply need the roads clear during the blizzard.

Public transportation will not be an option either. The MBTA is shutting down at 3:30 p.m.

He's making sure that the fewest of his fellow citizens will be caught in the blizzard. So yeah, what an autocrat !

You fucking people won't be satisfied until the government sends someone out to wipe your fucking asses for you.

SHEEPLE is the perfect description of you two!

On the contrary, I don't have any word that perfectly describes you (not even in French), 'cause there's no word to tell how deeply stupid you are

Or they just don't want a bunch of inbred morons with the opinion of, "Fuck all a yous! I can make mah own decisions! I can drive if'n I wanna drive!" out on the road in slippery and dangerous conditions...

... or at least out on the road until they lose control, go into a slide, and their cars end up in your goddamn living room.

It's not Martial Law moron!...it's for the safety of the citizens so it won't be a repeat of the blizzard of 78.

Another solution in such cases would bo for the mayor to say people shouldn't get in the streets and warn them that, if they still do, they will be on theit own, the government won't do anything if they happen to be in some kind of troubles, no ambulance will we sent to them, they will have to drive (or walk) to the next hospital even with a broken leg.

Problem being is that those people aren't just a hazard to themselves. People wreck shit in bad weather conditions. Hit poles and take out power lines (which when some folks have electric heating is a VERY bad thing), crash into parked cars, crash into houses, etc..

Leaving them to fend for themselves would only be an option if the only person's stuff they were likely to fuck up was their own, but that rarely ends up being the case.

I hate to say it, and I don't do so lightly, but you sound a lot like Sammy with comments like this.

It's a very "Libertarian" solution, isn't it? Let the onus be on the individual.

Unfortunately Libertarians tend not to realize that no man is an island, and ultimately the world is chock full of the fantastically stupid. When you add those two things together you're likely setting out the welcome mat for a whole lot of Hell on Earth.

People wreck shit in good weather

And? The existence of bad drivers doesn't mean that we should condone driving in conditions that will invariably make people worse drivers.

So, did you have a point? Because it doesn't seem like you did.

Probably because it was reasonning "in absurd".

Yeah, I had a point. The point is, I am sick and tired of some Politician telling me how to live my life. Perhaps you enjoy being told how to live YOUR life, but I don't. For once, why don't you stand up for yourself and take responsibility should you drive in a blizzard and wreck your car into the ditch.

Shit happens. Take responsibility.

I just don't like a politician telling me how I should live my life. If I want to drive in a blizzard (and by the way, they are common out here in Colorado and Wyoming.) People drive. People have lives to lead. Some choose not to drive in bad weather, others choose to live their own life and drive in snow storms.

But people like you always have to throw in that "But what if he wrecks" scenario. Well, he wrecks. And, he will pay for the tow truck to pull his car out of the ditch and pay for the damages.

The hand-wringers and do-gooders are constantly trying to "save" everyone. I say, leave me the fuck alone. Take a look at my truck below. A 1954 Dodge M-37. This is a truck used by all branches of the military in Korea, Vietnam, and when they were sold to the public as surplus vehicles, a lot of rural and small town fire stations bought them. I was fortunate to find this one in my home town and I bought it.

Snow gonna stop me? lol

Problem being that there are people around you trying to live their lives too. When your living your life fucks with their living their life well, yeah, someone has to step in and tell you to knock it the fuck off.

Shit happens. Take responsibility.

That's bullshit and you know it. If it weren't legally mandatory to have car insurance pretty much everywhere most people wouldn't, and when they hit someone? Well, fuck those guys because a lot of people don't have the cash to cover the accident anyway. THAT'S the shit that happens, and it's happened so often that's the REASON why so many things are made mandatory by law; because of all the fucking morons who make it a necessity. You know, all of those people who fuck shit up for everyone else and can't take responsibility.

Are YOU going to personally foot the bill for all of those people? If not then, yeah, the government HAS to step in and lay down a few rules.

But people like you always have to throw in that "But what if he wrecks" scenario. Well, he wrecks. And, he will pay for the tow truck to pull his car out of the ditch and pay for the damages.

Again, bullshit. What about when s/he drives into someone else's car or home? What about when s/he flees the scene and can't be easily held accountable? What happens then? What about when they wreck government or public property that we rely on and this shit happens?

Snow gonna stop me? lol

Yeah, because what you need is more mass when you slide on ice. That'll help you go right through the living room and take our the dinning room too.

SHEEPLE is the perfect description of you two!

Let's see, have people stay indoors and off the roads so that they don't get hurt, or let people go out in dangerous conditions so that they not only risk their lives, but also the lives of the emergency response teams that now have to save their asses. Yeah, you're REAL smart.

I like your idea Johan. No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk.

That's assuming someone is tearing down a snow covered residential street at 60+ mph. That would only happen if you were independent, stupid AND drunk.
Otherwise there's these things called curbs for anyone driving according to the conditions.
