Man kills 26 at Conn. school, including 20 kids

No kidding. It's terrifying how they push drugs out onto the market without doing long-term studies. We have no idea what these chemicals can cause. Just look at bath salts - who knew a recreational drug would turn a person into a cannibal?

But.. I also think if there were more access to quality mental health care, things like this may be less frequent. I don't want to get too political, but it's scary that people have easier access to guns than mental health care here in the US. But getting help is a huge part of the battle, and unless you have friends, family, coworkers, or others in your life that encourage/force you to get help, a mentally ill person is not likely to take advantage of such services anyway.

The sad part is that there used to be a mental health hospital in that town, everyone that knew him said he was a good kid, Adam Lanza's former classmate: was a respectable collector [of guns]. She used them responsibly.

Suicidal maniac + readily available weapons = massacre

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I've been saying this for years. All this time I've found it fascinating that not one politician has come out against the proliferation of pharmaceutical commercials and ads in our culture.

They're fucking invested!! Look at Bush and pfizer. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me one little bit, to find out obama had stock in Bushmaster, or Colt.

I was home watching TV when the story broke in the morning. 4 local stations covering it. All that was reported was the shootings of 3 people that were taken to the hospital with the killer dead at the school and no more to follow. It was surreal to watch it unfold in real time. News crews were kept at a distance. Parents walking down the road to the firehouse, picking up their kids, and coming back. Some spoke to the press but no mention of the devastation.

The 12:30 police news conference and 4 stations never mentioned or speculated upon more deaths. They were looking for a second shooter and were at the Mom's home and found her dead. It wasn't till an hour or so later and before the second police briefing did it start to come out that more bodies were inside. The closest the media could get to the area was with the helicopters. It looked like a secured scene. Little did I know what was inside that building till later. The story is still unfolding.

A friend of mine has a good friend whose 5 year old daughter was murdered in her kindergarten classroom yesterday. I am sick. These things did not happen when I was a child. I can't imagine those poor families, this is one of the worst tragedies in a long time.

I think the US need to tighten up their gun laws big time if they want to stop events like this happening
again in the future. It's a real shame that kids were killed, but give it a month or two,and it'll be a statistic
like all the other massacres that have happened in America in the past, where all the others like it - will be
soon forgotten.

Poor innocent defenseless children, why don't assholes like that join the military under a kamikaze program and be sent into war knowing they are suicidal killers, they could be an asset instead of a damn shame. :(

No, we don't forget these things. It will be one of those events that you remember where you were when you found out. It leaves an impact on you bigger than the politics. When Kennedy was shot, when Reagan was shot, Chernobyl, 3 Mile Island, the tsunami, New Orleans and NY Metro hurricanes, the British train bombings. Remember the bombing in the Bali? 200 dead and 250 injured.

You want to discuss guns then go to the political boards. They have a thread there.

What they need to do is tighten security in schools i know that you have to be buzzed in but most of the time they never ask who you are i only say this because i work in a school had to stop at a local school i forgot my id and they still buzzed me in never to ask what i wanted.

The school DOES have this system in place. The gunman used forceable entrance to get inside.

I just was reading that but let just say the doors and windows in those old schools are very easy to open i can pull open a locked door in the school i work in and that goes for most of the 17 public school in my city

Because unless the US changes it's mentality towards gun use, then there will always be a massacre on the
horizon.

From an outsider looking in.It's just a question of when the next one in the US will happen.

In Scotland this has only happened once in my lifetime (16 years ago in Dunblane) and the main reason for that
was the ban on firearms.I think if the US government are really serious in protecting their young in the future, then
they will have to look at us as an example in fixing it's problem.Because by the looks of it,the US have a serious one
and it's a question of if they really want to fix this or not.

But i'm sure the arms companies will have their final say.Not that they'll be giving a shit ;)

It's a shame there's no hell for that bastard to go to. Nothing this bad, should go unpunished. I don't understand why these sociopaths can't gun down some Klansmen or westboro church members then commit suicide. Pro-gun people really need to stop putting their twisted second amendment rights over human life. Clearly America is not mature enough to have such an amendment and if it's not gonna crack down on regulation like in Japan (2 gun related deaths to our thousands each year), this shit is just gonna keep happening and America will continue saying it's a great country without being able to prove it.

Get off your fat ass and move to Japan.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
This is a hard topic for me.
I desire a weapon to defend myself with (I have an illegal knife which has never drawn blood).
Yet I've never had a gun pulled on me (only a knife, which I ran from).
I desire a firearm to defend myself, but would probably be shot before getting a chance to defend myself.

In the past I was certain tha legal firearms ownership was better.
Now? Not so much.

This event alone made you change your mind about legal firearms?
