Man arrested for shooting AK at MS-13 gang members outside his home

He was arrested for protecting his property and ******.

But it’s how the Long Island man did it that police say crossed the line.

He got an AK-47 assault rifle, pulled the trigger and he ended up in jail, reports CBS 2’s Pablo Guzman.

George Grier said he had to use his rifle on Sunday night to stop what he thought was going to be an invasion of his Uniondale home by a gang he thought might have been the vicious “MS-13.” He said the whole deal happened as he was about to drive his ****** home.

“I went around and went into the house, ran upstairs and told my wife to call the police. I get the *** and I go outside and I come into the doorway and now, by this time, they are in the driveway, back here near the house. I tell them, you know, ‘Can you please leave?’ Grier said.

Grier said the five men dared him to use the ***; and that their shouts brought another larger group of gang members in front of his house.

“He starts threatening my ******, my life. ‘Oh you’re dead. I’m gonna **** your ****** and your babies. You’re dead.’ So when he says that, 20 others guys come rushing around the corner. And so I fired four warning shots into the grass,” Grier said.

Grier was later arrested. John Lewis is Grier’s attorney.

“What he’s initially charged with – A D felony reckless endangerment — requires a depraved indifference to human life, creating a risk that someone’s going to die. Shooting into a lawn doesn’t create a risk of anybody dying,” Lewis said.

Grier said he knew Nassau County Police employ the hi-tech “ShotSpotter” technology in his area and that the shooting would bring police in minutes. Cops told Guzman he was very cooperative.

Grier also said he was afraid the gang outside his house was the dreaded MS-13. And Nassau County Police Lt. Andrew Mulraine, head of the gang unit, said MS-13 has 2,000 members in the county.

How dare you defend your home! It's against the law.
Fucking ridiculous. Law systems worldwide need to be overhauled: In England if a thief injures himself on barbed wire round your property he can sue you and we've paid prisoners as compensation for being let out of jail early (I'm not even joking) And then we wonder why we have all this crime and anti-social behaviour? We need to be tough on criminals, especially those who threaten the sanctity of the home and show them that crime does not pay.
If those guys are gang-members then, lets be honest, who would miss them? He should've ****** the lot and been let off as it was defense of not just himself, but his home and ******.
As it is, we've already seen that firing into the grass was EXTREMELY unlikely to harm the men. If anything he under-reacted.

We've had a few lawsuits where a burglar broke into a home and cut himself on the window he punched out or got cut from someone defending their home.

If the police are prosecuting because it is a possible ********* of the law, it should be reported as such

Great lesson in informational dissonance

Sell a narrative ('courageously defending ******'), ****** divisive content ('AK-47' / assault weapon) to intentionally provoke people's emotion response (defend *** rights / unlawful prosecution of the law).

That way, you get people clicking on your site/tuning in for more like Pavlovian dogs.

Meanwhile, people become so entrenched in their emotional reaction that the discussion is down 7 different paths before people ask critical questions

What the man 'thought' is irrelevant

That's absolutely not true. In both a practical sense and a legal sense what he thought is completely relevant. If somebody is in a situation where a reasonable person would think they need to defend himself that person is allowed to do so. I also give more leeway to somebody that legitimately thinks he might be in danger than to somebody that's just acting stupid.

The Florida "Castle Doctrine" law basically does three things:

One: It establishes, in law, the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into your home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, therefore a person may use any manner of *****, including deadly *****, against that person.

Two: It removes the "duty to retreat" if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. You no longer have to turn your back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Instead, you may stand your ground and fight back, meeting ***** with *****, including deadly *****, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others. [This is an American right repeatedly recognized in Supreme Court *** cases.]

Three: It provides that persons using ***** authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such *****.

It also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or ******* the criminals who have attacked them.

The way this law works is if you believe there is a genuine threat to yourself or others from a violent criminal, you have the right to defend yourself and others. It doesn't allow for the busting of caps in ass for someone breaking into your Geo Metro if it's unoccupied.

My instructors were very clear in the use of deadly *****; if you fear for your life or the lives of anyone nearby by a verifiable threat you are to take whatever means necessary to eliminate that threat. But if it is just a property crime, detain the suspect using what ***** is deemed by that situation.

They also said, "If someone is worth shooting once, they're worth shooting 16 times or until they stop moving."
