I'm not sure about the her not having the money part, but this poster is dead on about overcrowding in California prisons. She was not incarcerated for a violent crime so she'd have been pretty high on the list to be matrixed out. Which is exactly what happened. Her being a pseudo-celeb certainly didn't hurt her being released early either. I'm extremely skeptical that her having money had anything at all to do with it however.
