Kubrick or Scorsese?

Scorsese.

Haven't seen one movie that he's done that I didn't like.

I liked most of Kubrick's stuff, but comparing them both,Scorsese is better, for my taste.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Scorsese

GoodFellas > A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, 2001, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket.

The only movie that Scorsese ever made that I really liked was "The Departed" (it's also the only movie that Leonardo Di Caprio has been in that I liked).

Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Full Metal Jacket" make him the winner in this comparison for me.

O/T: the best Director ever, however, has to be Steven Spielberg:

Duel, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saving Private Ryan, Shindler's List, Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Munich and he had a very large hand in the best mini-series ever made... Band of Brothers.

I love them both, for different reasons.

Scorsese for many of his movies and his huge caterpillar eyebrows, Kubrick for many of his movies and his attention to detail.

I'm saying Scorsese but Kubrick has been very influential on the movie industry. I just like more of Scorsese's type of movies (i.e. gangster movies)

BTW, why didn't the thread starter make this a poll?

Both make really great movies. I like Scorsese's work more, but I believe Kubrick is a more singular and original director. Like Coppola, Kubrick has created some of the most iconic works of cinema and the most wretched creations. Scorsese never has really created a film as unique as 2001 or A Clockwork Orange. I also think Kubrick's sense of design and cinematography is more interesting than Scorsese.

To even compare the two, you'd probably have to make some sort of list comparing the two's movies, and that's quite a task. While Kubrick hasn't made as many movies as Scorsese, his tend to be more leveled in terms of psychology and plot. Scorsese's tend to be straightforward and easy to follow with some degree of spectacle.

Kubrick is the greatest thing to have ever happened to film. He took a book about pedophilia and turned it into a movie that I don't feel guilty in watching.

Kubrick easily.
When was the last time Scorsese made a decent movie? He is past it.

Cape Fear. His last great movie. All other stuff is overrated.

Paths Of Glory > everything Scorsese has ever made.

It's Kubrick by a country mile. He never made even so much as an average film. All his films were good to great. Scorsese has made at least a couple of absolute piles of shit, whilst Kubrick was far more adaptable in the types of stories he shot.

Scorsese would come close to Kubrick had he retired in 1982. Too many turds after that.

There are only a handful of directors who managed to remain almost tuird-free in their oeuvre. Kubrick is one of them. His only lesser films are Shining and Eyes Wide Shut. I rank him along with Billy Wilder, Howard Hawks and Federico Fellini as the ones who had the Midas touch.
