I guess a quick death is all you can hope from the Lord's mercy, although it is know have being burned alive -as the Bible recommends orders you to do to your relatives if they happen to worship another go- is particulary long and painfull death.
I guess the Lord wants pagans not only to die but to go through a long and painful agony before they die. Thank God, the Lord is mercyful, just imagine if he was a mean god...

No serious researcher has said that Jesus did not exist about 2000-years ago.

But many writings about him have disappeared completely or have not yet been found and that's why there are so many controversial points.

That's what I said : We know Jesus historically existed. But there are no actual records of proof of what he did between his birth and his death. Because all what the Bible tells us happened in the desert, when he was surrounded by illeterate people. We're told he performed miracles but there's no official record of such miracles.
