Because for many of us, Christmas is a holiday not about religion, but about celebrating with family and friends. Which means drinks, food, presents, etc.. Same goes for weddings.. DUH!

You ever stopped and actually wondered what that meant?
Christians rattle it off all the time, but do they actually understand what it means? I don't, that's my genuine input on it but am I expected to care that a man, was "created" knowing that he would be persecuted, beaten, crucified and finally stabbed just because of who he was?
If I was Jesus I think I'd be a little upset at the raw deal I'd been given by Daddy. Then you tell me he "died for our sins" - What does that shit mean? By dying on the cross he takes ownerships of your fuck ups giving you a free pass to commit more?
Believing in something that just so happens to have a get out of jail free card in the folds is not a free pass for you (or anyone) to do terrible stuff and then repent, repent, repent on the off chance you are right and there is a hell at the end of the road.
I would LOVE to hear how Christians defend the untold horrors that have happened through history, news message boards are the best place for the religious rhetoric used to make a situation more sympathetic to their beliefs.

Before, during the 4th Century, it has been decided that, to make it easier for christianism to replace pagan religions, it would remplace the pagan "winter holiday" (just like Easter replace spring holiday, All Saints Day replaced Autum holiday and St John the Baptist -very popular holiday in Europe 'til modern era- replaced Summer holiday).
Because Christmas has becme a secular holiday, due to its economical aspect.

Answer to your first question: It coincides with an ancient pagan holiday designed to celebrate the winter solstice and really has nothing to do with the actual date of his birth.

Satanists celebrating Christmas with gifts and goodies, etc as you say....you have documentation of this activity? If so, please share. Personally, I have never seen it. I have seen lots of non-religious people (myself included) who celebrate Christmas as a way of showing love and affection for family, friends and good times in general. Am I the kind of person about which you speak? If so, I take offense at the implication that I am a Satanist (which I most definitely am not).
