Jehovah's Witnesses

- Religious conviction can prevent you from joining the army.
Prevent you or block you ?

Let's assume I'm a Jehovah's witness. Can I love my country ? Can I dedicate my life to protect my country from its enemies ? Or does being a Jehovah's witness forbids me to do so ?

They are very friendly people and they have a lot to sell.
Fixed

You have to calm your mind and listen to what they are trying to tell you
Once I had plenty of time ahead of me so I played a little game with them : I played the guy who was interested, listened to them, look at the documents they had asked many questions, etc. Then, after about two hours of that little game I broke character, told them how I really feel about all religions and harsly ordered them you leave.
I guess the word has spreaded about how I played them and wasted their time 'cause I never saw them again

The sign is hung directly below the doorbell. There is no way someone couldn't see it. It works better than good.

Opening the door and being polite sometimes doesn't work as smoothly as you might think. Many of these people are persistent about getting donations and can be shameless in their behavior. The sign is the most civilized way to handle them.

Ok, so the sign is so big that there is no risk of mistake.

- Johan, you are apparently a Muslim so I don't think any Christian will come to your door and want to chat with you.

- A true Jehovah's Witness sells nothing.

- That's one way of communicating with people, a very bad one.

Assari are you a Jehovas Witness?
Judging by your words I guess you probably are.

So tell us please what they are about. Nobody will give you a problem here.
I believe we are all open minded and accepting types.
What do they believe?

I am not a Jehovah's Witness, but I have discussed with them several times.

I think they are a very decent group and they believe in Jesus like the rest of us.

The difference between an "ordinary Christian" and them is that they follow the rules of religion literally.

What makes you think that ? 'cause I'm certainly not muslim. Just like I'm not christian, jew or whatever.
I'm an atheist, I think all religions are just BS created thousands years ago to control people.

Maybe but it was intended. And it's been a very effective way oif getting rid of these cockroaches

- Because you criticize almost exclusively Christians.

- I have not noticed that they sell anything and even if someone sells something you are not forced to buy.

- Jehovah's Witnesses are devout people, not insects.

Oh ok. Thanks for clarifying that.

Now that leads me to question the term "Rules of Religion".

I would say there is a difference, sometimes a great difference, between following the the words of The Bible and following the "rules" or beliefs or customs of a particular Christian religion, or any religion.

I'm far from an expert on any religion so I don't know what JW's actually believe. It just seems to me that all the different christian and jewish religions or sub categories of those religions all have different beliefs, customs, and criteria for getting into heaven and they can't all be right. I believe its very presumptuous and ignorant for any religion or individual to assume they know what is right and to basically have an attitude of "Its our way or the highway (To Hell)".
I don't know. I just don't know.

It does seem that most people who criticize religion(s) don't have a problem with the words of the Bible but more with the customs and beliefs.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe in God and believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

But they do not believe in the Trinity which mean that God, Christ and the Holy Spirit would be one and the same thing.

This is why I don't get involved in religious conversations (unless I'm drinking at a bar with other people where it's safe to do so).

Its usually either one extreme or another with people.

You are right, but Christians cannot give up their principles.

If you give your finger to Devil it it will take your whole hand.

Please read the text of the 1st Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

So if we have diametrically opposed religions, and truly any set of beliefs can be codified into a religion (see Scientology, Pastafariansim, Universal Life Church, etc.,), as long as neither infringes upon the other, everything is cool, mind your own fucked up religion, as it were, and nobody garners any special or favored status from the government because it's unconstitutional. If that's an extreme position, So Mote It Be, y'all. Illuminati stuff and shit.

I dated one about twenty years back, for about six or seven months, cute girl. She would go to her church about 4 or 5 days a week but she never really brought up her faith with me.
