James Spader: The Blacklist

Incredible so far. Spader is just a great actor.

He is. I haven't seen much of him lately though. I really liked him in Less Than Zero (which I thought sucked, except for his performance).

I'm going to try to catch this show the next time it comes on. If it doesn't follow the typical Hollywood script formula, where I have seen all the characters in different forms somewhere else, then I may follow it. I'll keep my expectations low (hey, it's network TV) and maybe I won't be disappointed.

Also going with they not actually related thing. Think, if the writers want to create some tension with the daddy issues, they will go "The Recruit" with Spader pulling a Pacino.
Overall though, incredibly underwhelmed. The Hannibal thing was pretty thick and who ever directed the pilot didn't seem to have the finesse to pull it off. Spader's character lacks genuine, old world class, he just comes off as pompous and having a military background makes him less mysterious. Maybe Boone's character will be intense enough to make up the difference.

They have so many minutes to get their point across. So they Lecter-ize him so we know he's not just a crook, but a major bad guy.

They have my attention. This show will (hopefully) fill the void left by the cancellation of Leverage. Another show where I could have chosen to poke one hole after another in, but instead chose to enjoy.

I liked the first episodes, but I'm really worried that they might go this way with the series. I think it would be clunky, obvious and just way to cliched. If they have to do a 'long lost relative' story, how about the child that Lizzie is supposed to adopt is actually Reddingtons grand-child?

Watched both episodes now. It's a real shame an actor as talented as Jimmy is wasted on a lame ass how like this, it really is. Should've guessed, since it's on NBC... But at least you guys enjoy it so good for you. Would've been cool to watch Jimmy in action again. Then again, I don't think anything can top what he did with Boston Legal. Maybe Ultron? Naah.

Just an FYI, the guy who played the Stew Maker was in the original Hannibal Lecter movie (I'll see if you can name the movie and the actor who played Lecter), and was also in a pretty good Ray Liotta flick called "Phoenix".
