Well, Bond does have a license to kill and uses it often (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) and takes no shit from his superiors, even escaping from them if he has to (Die Another Day). Bauer seems to be just another cog in a huge bureaucratic machine he has to contend with the whole time otherwise if he just did it his way the show would be called "12". Now if they were to go mano a mano, depends on the Bond. Bauer would definetely kick those pretty boys' asses (Brosnan, Moore, Lasenby and even Dalton) but maybe would get his ass kicked by Craig or Connery in his prime (he seems like he would fight very dirty). :2 cents:

Followed closely by the James Bond of Gold Finger and From Russia with Love (you're damn right her would fight dirty).
Though Jack doesn't seem to have as much time for the ladies, I think I am correct in saying that the percentage of women who Bauer has slept with and who have subsequently ended up dead is slightly lower than the percentage of women Bond has slept with who end up dead. Though it might be close.

The character of James Bond is a cinematic legend, has been loved for decades now, and will still be loved decades from now. In five years most people when asked about Jack Bauer are going to say, "Jack Bauer, who the hell is that...oh wait a minute, wasn't he that guy on that one gimmicky TV show years ago or something."
Probably Jack Bauer, although quite robotic he does exactly what needs to be done without hesitation and remains loyal to the President at all times, he is ultimately trustworthy and uncorruptable. James Bond is more something of fantasy who oozes charm and charisma, I don't know any British Guys that are anything like this but you can imagine real Americans having similar qualities to Jack, unfortunately most would die early on in Season 1 in reality.
