Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
I hate to be that guy, but speaking from the side of a computer person, what is the government supposed to be able to get off of you with this? There's nothing there to take files off of your computer, monitor you etc... what you're signing up for is essentially providing the exact same information to the government that you'd provide if you file your taxes online. Now, I'm not sitting here agreeing with the policy, but practically speaking, there's nothing they can get from you with that site that they couldn't already get elsewhere. To be honest, it just sounds like a lot of paranoia without understanding how the computer system works.
A rational and authoritative post, Shayd!
I guess your take on this depends whose ox is being gored. If this program were being instituted during the Bush administration, you'd have all of the extreme left in an uproar. The big difference is that the "Cash for Clunkers" program was created by a congressional vote. The warrantless wiretapping provision to FISA was created by executive order....huge difference.
Interestingly, the whole partisan paranoid loop can be closed when one realizes that the Bill Clinton issued an executive order that authorized warrantless searches if the attorney general deemed them to be justified. The original FISA was passed back in 1978 during the Carter administration and remained in effect through 12 subsequent years of republicans being in the white house between 1981-1993, as it still does to this day.
Right, left, right, left.....your see how the government has us all marching in unison here?
