As so many in here played the STATE'S RIGHTS (card) comment in my other thread concerning California's toughest *** laws, I can see the hypocritical ways you LIBERALS tend to flip flop when it comes to issues you don't agree with, yet favor the things you do agree with - *** control for example.

They certainly have that RIGHT as a state. That's great. I simply don't agree with their "new *** laws." I never said they DON'T have the right to pass laws.

Let's get out of this fantasy-land that slavery originated in the US. Slavery was a worldwide industry since the dawn of civilization. Even the Native Americans practiced it. It started elsewhere, it ended here.
I don't see what that has to do with anything. The discussion was about the American Civil War and why it was fought. Slavery is not okay anywhere, or at any point in time, but we were talking about the figurehead of the pro-slavery side in the Civil War.
If we're going to eliminate all figureheads that had anything to do with slavery, let's abolish the entire Roman Empire from history. Greek Empire, Persian Empire, any and all Indian tribes (and those who led them) who took slaves, should all be stripped of mention. Let's disavow the existence of the Aztecs and Incas because they had slaves and practiced human sacrifice.
It's evolution. You don't learn anything unless you learn from something. Colonial America merely used the same economic model that had been used everywhere else since the beginning of "civilization".
