Is this forum dying?

Personally, I have no social media accounts. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Snapchat, blah-blah-blah. I, for one, don't see a reason.

Why do you need to post everything you're doing, or eating? Why do you need to post every opinion you have?

I've seen too many people dig themselves into a world of **** because they posted an opinion that was unpopular, or not worded well. Some people have lost friends, jobs, etc., because of this. It's just stupid.

Neither do I. Well, that's not completely true. I did have a Linkedin account, but I haven't updated the profile or even visited it in years. And six or seven years ago, I opened a Twitter account. I think I had a grand total of three followers. The only person who I ever traded tweets with was Matt Miller from Bloomberg News. But somewhere along the line, I posted something that wasn't politically correct and he stopped following me. I guess honesty is toxic these days. I didn't blame him. Like you said, people can get in trouble for not following the herd these days, and there's guilt by association. If I was still trying to advance my career, I'd have to be concerned about that too. So I haven't logged onto Twitter in years either. From Compuserve and BBS boards 30 years ago to now, I'm just more into message boards.

Anyway, I don't know why people have flocked to social media and left message boards - being able to easily interact using mobile devices might have something to do with it. :dunno: Kind of like video gaming, since I've never really been attracted to it, I can't relate to it. And I realize that the nostalgia gets on some people's nerves, but when I look back at old threads here, I'm still amazed at the immense wit displayed by so many of the posters here. Sure, there were some real knuckleheads too, but this place had some real characters once upon a time. I glance at several of the other subforums, but the Talk section used to be the sheeeet, ya know?

Don't ban anyone, don't delete posts, don't allow any ignores. If you can't handle it don't be on this forum.

That's cool and all. But going by Connor's numbers, it looks like almost 85% of the members said, "see ya!"

I'd say Connor is right about the change in rules having something of an affect here. But I'm guessing it's a combination of things (social media and whatever else) that caused that, since every forum I've been on has seen a heavy drop off in active users.

That is the most ignorant answer in this thread yet. Let us just think about the legal perspective. If ALL os fair, this place would be offline on day three, of not a day earlier. You KNOW how many people just can't keep their cool, and threads would develop into open fire in no time.

And this is a place to be around people from the broad spectrum of the erotic industry. You think they would stay around with madmen on the loose, with zero control?

You obviously have never worked as an admin or moderator

There's also a difference between debating and instigating/perpetuating.

This is rich coming from one of if not the biggest pot stirrers on this board. You never miss an opportunity to keep an argument or flame war going even if it is beginning to settle down.

It's been dying for quite some time.

I rarely comment in the Talk section, but feel I should here.

Several years ago, this forum had about 90,000 active members.

Things were going strong then, but one day, Petra made an announcement that the moderators were banning way too many "trolls" and she was going to allow some trolling-flaming in the Talk Section.

I rarely visited the Talk Section, but I'd seen what happens when this was allowed on other forums and I told Petra she was making a huge mistake. She ignored my advice and several mods and long-time members immediately quit. After that we began a slow slide downhill.

Over the years, I received a lot of PM's from people telling me they were quitting because of the rampant trolling.

Fast forward to now and we have gone from 90,000 down to just over 15,000.

Obviously, I was right, but I never imagined it would get this bad.

correlation vs. causation. So a a 75,000 drop primarily because of trolls? lol. Yeah, ok.

There is a perfectly functioning ignore feature on this forum.

Not that I care, just making an observation in the OP. Some people take this **** way too seriously and even carry it over to other platforms (LOL @usernameFO). And as far as the political rancor goes, that has been quarantined in it's own section. You go in there at your own risk and should know what to expect.

Whatever, I'm just here to jerk off. fuck you all.

Yes, I remember the 80's and 90's well. Procomm boards and pirated software was everywhere. You only had to know the right people, and I knew a lot of them.

Don't ban anyone, don't delete posts, don't allow any ignores. If you can't handle it don't be on this forum.
Years ago, I was on a forum that was even more popular than FreeOnes at it's highest. The admins on the other board decided to try the same experiment, but with a difference. No bans, no deletes, no edits, no ignores. Just say whatever you want without repercussions. I rarely posted, and officially quit when the member count dropped below 1,000. And, when I joined FreeOnes, the other board's member count had dropped to less than 100.

So, I have to agree with Supafly's comment about your post, "That is the most ignorant answer in this thread yet."

It's been dying for quite some time.
Yeah... Go back and read post #7.

I noticed activity declining in the forums, in my memory's eye, beginning around 2009-2010?

I had just attributed that to the explosion of Internet destinations (I'm thinking back to 1998, when few were the quality places online to pull your pud - which is what I almost exclusively do here, though I'm always intrigued by the conversation that takes place, and, for my part, I try to contribute meaningfully to that, too).

That's true. I rarely come into the talk section unless I'm checking on a reported post.
Where you responding to a reported post when you deleted every comment in tvstrips thread? Premium Link Upgrade

Just wondering because it was an active thread with many comments regarding the OP. Did it belong in the P&R area? No, probably not. It probably would have been a better idea to move it to the sports section before deleting posts. It would have been easier just to move it too, less clicks. J/S ;)
.

I know this is probably not the only reason but could it be that more people are using mobiles and tablets these days and not finding it as easy to navigate to Freeones with these devices? I've just tried accessing the Freeones Forum on my phone and it took me a few attempts to find it from the homepage. Maybe easier access and better layout on mobile devices would bring more people to the board.
I know with SEO and Google rankings, if you've got a more mobile friendly site which is easier to navigate, it bumps you up the rankings Could the marketing of Freeones have any effect on the people coming here and staying here? I dont know! :dunno:

I guess some members have also moved on from the forum because of life changes as well, whatever they may be

I remember when I joined back in 2009 the board was a lot livelier than it is now. I think if there are more people on the board bouncing more ideas, views and topics around it you will generally get more of a dynamic community and interest if that makes sense :)

That's my 2p worth anyway lol :)
