As a consumer of porn, I'm well aware of the darker side of the industry. As I get older and more genre savvy, I find it troubling to derive enjoyment from performers who, IRL, may be treated like crap behind the scenes. Essentially, I'm all for porn, but not at the expense of the performers' well-being. To that end, I want to become a more educated consumer of porn.
Is there any kind of consensus or documentation about the good studios? Or studios that should be avoided? And I don't mean just in terms of abuse (although that should be obvious), but fair/equal pay and benefits.
I understand that this is a touchy subject, but nothing is a worse boner de-throner for me than knowing the performers aren't being treated well/fairly. I hate reading up on my favorite performers only to learn that they died horribly, or are suffering from disease and/or addiction, or were abused during their time in the business, or are escorting just to pay the bills. I'm not against porn itself - it's incredibly hot when done well, and consenting adults should be able to do what they want - but I don't want to support the studios who are part of the problem.
