Is Streaming ******* ????

Hi all,

I've spent quite sometime searching the interweb for a definate answer to this and to this point i've been stumped.

I am considering using sites such as videostix which link you to movies or tv shows to download or stream.I have no desire to download !

Now it's clear that downloading it an obvious copyright infringement it is not clear if streaming the same movie or tv show is. There are atleast 3 different answers that appear quite often :

1) Yes it's *******
2) As you are streaming you are downloading to buffer but are unlikely to be prosecuted
3) The copyright issue it the problem for the website hosting the video not the end user who can assume in reasonable faith(unless stated) that the video is shown with copyright compliance.

I'm in the UK but would expect the law to be the same in most of the world so any answers would be great. No disrespect but if the answers could have links to copyright law or strong substance as i've seen plenty of answers on Yahooanswers or Wikianswers such as :

Jim123 says "it's fine"
Dave321 says "it's ******* !"

Just a one way or the other would be great, don't really want a HUGE fine all my spare money is heading for the new Ducati Motorbike Fund !!

Cheers in advance Guys :glugglug:

I say that streaming in the sense of the tube sites is legal and not harmful to the industry as long as the tube site does not allow downloading/trading (can't be hacked).

I think the internet has essentially ruined the old model of buying a product in a physical form (CD, VCR tape). Content creators/providers are going to have to go with a streaming business model at some point. Consumers are going to have to get used to not owning anything but paying for access or single viewings of a scene or collection of scenes.:dunno::2 cents:

Don't do it! The Feds are just waiting for you to stream Weekend At Bernies. As soon as you do, they'll swoop in and seize all your assets. After that you'll be looking at a life sentence in an ass-****** facility with no chance of parole.

Personally, I think if the content itself has been stolen/pirated then it's ******* no matter how you choose to view it. :2 cents:

Any site can be hacked. For the most part, those streaming site consist of very little in the way of security, as they really only serve as a makeshift proxy for viewing content.

It is *******, it is the same like downloading, when you are sharing data you don't owe it is *******.

Not in the Netherlands. You may not be aware of it but there's a whole world out there besides the USA and we don't all have the same laws ;)

By that definition, sending a text message with your phone is *******. Same if you use any Apps from the Apple App Store.

I think that stealing is ******* everywhere. Is it legal in Netherlands for example to let anyone watch Avatar or any new movie on the site with streaming videos? I think it is.
